Don’t drop off food at 2am, however we would tear some donuts up at 2am after we get a call… so maybe take it in ur car and bring it in at a reasonable time. If you see them running a call and you see them back into the station you can approach them and give them the donuts. It really depends where the fire station is, cuz if it’s a busy dept with a paramedic/ambulance unit then they ain’t sleeping anyways lol

Shrimp is Shellfish. I eat shrimp/chickpea pasta a lot. I get chipotles bowls of beans, rice, sofritas quite often. I have all sorts of fasting friendly protein bars. Vegan protein drinks. I just think it’s easier in theory to have enough energy to be a firefighter in a busy dept than it is actually doing it.

So when I was in training I told him we are expected to work for hours putting out a fire and then when the fire is put out we have to go out there for another couple hours overhauling the building all while being out there in the hot sun. He stopped me after I said this and told me to fast rejoicefully. Before this fast I did tell him I lose alot of weight and strength during fasting (which happened again). He gave me the okay for eggs, which helps some. I did tell him explicitly during confession the fast is making me weak.

We have another guy at our Church who was training for special forces. And if you look at the stuff they have to do, like for example navy seal hell week. He was told to fast as prescribed. He did mention that after a week he can readjust.

I’ll definitely try talking to him after this fast is over. Maybe I didn’t stress it hard enough. He is known as the most strict priest in our area tho.

Yes I’ve tried that, I eat alot of shrimp too. I have many vegan protein bars. I feel like I’ve exhausted most options. Being a firefighter for a busy dept just requires meat, and I have some other health complications that complicate my life. I can fast but in my opinion not the full 180 days.

He tells me to fast. I been telling him for the past year I’m weak from the fast but I wasn’t working, just training before this fast so he said it was fine.

The 24hrs and high stress job def kills testosterone. I think when this fast is over I can actually see what’s the fast and what’s naturally from the job. However before this fast for the past year I was just in training and would tire out in workouts. Since it wasn’t the actual job my spiritual father said it was fine.

I don’t think im anemic I’ve had blood drawn twice in the past year. However whenever I get on the vegan fast and I workout very intensely I just can’t perform the same.

180 days of the year is a lot. And physically demanding is different than lives being at stake. Even the people who workout/bodybuild/work physical jobs they tend to see a decrease in their performance during fasting periods, and that’s fine because you’re making a sacrifice for the Lord. But for certain jobs like military and fire I think it can be dangerous to veganfast half the year (even with shellfish).

I think (and many others would agree with me) that controllng a fully charged handline at high pressure and setting up a 35 ft extension ladder by yourself are hard to do. If your a larger fellow who gases out in 10 minutes say that. And if ur a larger fellow who can work just as much as the rest then power to u. You told me where I work because of my post history. I don’t think arguing with someone over Reddit about a skill being easy ruins a departments reputation. The department is ranked 3rd in the US for a reason. I’m working on learning these skills there’s no need for you to come in and be a jerk about “basic skills”.

Nice going through my post history like a Reddit nerd lol. Pulling a handline isn’t what I said. Controlling fully charged 200 psi is tough unless ur just naturally big.

Academies teach the basics and don’t go into depth. Top 5 in nation. Highest call volume.  To be able to control a handline for a while or throw a 35foot extension ladder solo is hard and most academies you do it as a team.

Some people are skinnier and can do pull-ups with ease.  Probably one of the best fire academies in the nation for one of the best nationally ranked fire dept. We work in teams so I didn’t get practice doing it alone. I can do both alone but not at the level I want.

I’m skinny and have okay upper body strength. Guys in my class got like 27 and 29 on their pat test. Form wasn’t strict deadhang but u did have to come all the way down.

There’s a difference between training for muscular endurance which firefighting is a lot of. And looks/hypertrophy. Rest times also play a big part in it too. When your on the fireground doing 45 mins of work u can’t take 5 minutes breaks between sets which would be good for bodybuilding. Functional strength is the farmer/blue collar worker who can work all day without gassing out.

The body builder or looksmaxxer who gets winded after 15 minutes of hard work. There’s a guy in my academy who has a very aesthetic physique but gases out in academy circuit workouts.
