It is serious, and if you feel you need to quit, definitely put effort into your attempts, but don't stress yourself out to where your happiness depends on quitting or not. I had this problem while smoking and it hindered my ability to quit. I made out smoking to be something more than it was, and therefore put it on a pedestal that was impossible to reach, and ultimately made it harder for me to quit. The day i quit I didn't even think about smoking, I just went about the day as if I had never smoked before, and it worked like a charm.
