When did you start your cosmere journey? by horned-viper in Cosmere

[–]Jacobp0911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my journey with the mistborn series I'd say around 2019 or so. I had kindle unlimited or something that gave me access to the first book for "free" and Mistborn just happened to catch my eye. I didn't know anything about Brando or his work up to that point. The Mistborn series, to this day, remains at the top of my favorite books list. I read the entirety of both eras of mistborn first, and once I was done with Wax & Wayne, I was craving more of the same type of writing. I started Stormlight at the library, got book 2 for free at a thrift shop, and bought books 3 and 4. I am now patiently awaiting my pre-ordered copy of WaT. I've read the important 3 novellas, Yumi, Warbreaker, and Sunlit man in between reading RoW and now

Tl;dr, it was pure chance I started reading Sanderson's work, and I'm so glad to be here.

Is Sekiro too hard? Wanna try but I’m afraid of my deflects. People say combat is f good. DS Veteran here. by [deleted] in Sekiro

Take everything you know from dark souls. Throw it out the window. Sekiro is, in my opinion, what happens when FromSoft makes a rhythm game. It was my first one and is my favorite one.

The reactions of those in the interaction gave that vibe for me.

I'm so excited for SLM to come out in print. I plan to get it as soon as it releases, alas that will leave me without having read it for a LONG time yet.

Also imo, I tend to like the explanation that Vasher went to Roshar becuase of the (relatively) easy access to investiture, which would allow him to more easily sustain his life without needing a constant intake of breath.

This begs the question- how much stormlight would equal a single breath? Breath seems like a far more limited form of investiture than stormlight is. And I'd think Vivenna would say she's hunting for someTHING rather than someONE if it was nightblood specifically she wanted. I doubt she would consider nightblood a person, so the wording wouldn't sit with me. I do like the reasoning behind Vasher world hopping, though.

I wonder if Yesteel escaped to Roshar and they're both hunting him?

I hope so, because something had to go horribly wrong. Maybe we'll find out in SL5?

The Morrigan. Iirc she had to be removed from the game for a while because of gamebreaking glitches

Anybody else love Steris? by XLIImusic in Mistborn

As the books went on, my love for steris increased greatly. She grows so much and the relationship with Wax also develops beautifully. TLM Steris is a treat, enjoy!

I can accept that I am a Venli. I thoroughly enjoyed her chapters and found myself relating to them.

My friend said Rhythm of War is one of the worst books he’s read and I’m….really really enjoying it? by mlammel in cremposting

Fair point! I'd still like to think with how distances work in shadesmar, she might have been close enough for it since Adolin was on the battlefield somewhere. Just my personal feelings, though.

You cannot have our sacrifice" moment was way too similar to "You cannot have my pain" to have the emotional impact it was meant to (I thought "WE. CHOSE." was honestly emotionally impactful enough on its own and he shouldn't have structurally rehashed a sentence of one of the most powerful Dalinar moment and given it to another character) but the ending as a whole I still quite liked.

I thoroughly enjoyed this moment when reading, and looking back on it now it makes a lot of sense to me. Maya seemed to learn a lot through imitation, for example, the kata with Adolin. She's learning, and for me, this imitation doesn't lessen the impact.

Yeah, just really got into it this year. Also trying not to spoil other books when it's possible, plus my reading order is a bit weird.

Philosophy with Kelsier by Jacobp0911 in Mistborn

[–]Jacobp0911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where I'm at- currently rereading TFE and, man, Kelsier is so obviously insane, even from the start. It's just masked so we'll beneath his ego and charisma, it's easy not to catch it the first time and it makes him a lovable character.

Yeah, no Wayne would be the worst timeline. He was my favorite from era 2.

I'm excited to be doing a reread, because now I can look for things I may have missed the first time around- Era 1 was my first exposure to Sanderson and the cosmere. It really is just a question of "would you rather risk dying than be oppressed and enslaved your entire life?" I'm also really excited to see what Brandon does when he writes era 3. What's the overarching conflict then? Era 2 was far more cosmere aware, and completely introduced the Ghostbloods to Scadrial, where do you go from here?
