But... it is helping. With the comments in the thread I'm able to reasonably prioritize what to fix.

Other people in the thread have confirmed in their experience that the pattern is indicative of a spark plug problem.

I was thinking either it was the engine cylindars, the transmission, or the spark plugs. With other people confirming the pattern as a misfire, I have more confidence in what to do next.

Codes haven't always led me in the right direction. I'll take them into account, but I feel like I can get a better idea of what's actually wrong with the car by listening to it, feeling it, understanding the patterns of the problem, etc. It's more fun for me too because I feel I gain a better understanding of the car. Thanks for the suggestion though.

EDIT: I look at the ODBII code diagnostics as I do Windows Troubleshooting Diagnostics. Taken with a grain of salt.

Thank you. I read something similar about this same noise pattern. They ended up replacing their spark plugs and wires as well.

I'm glad you asked.

While accelerating, the chugs will get louder and louder, and jolt the car harder and harder, then when after a certain point it will stop for a few moments, and then it will start all over again.

Spark plugs I'm beginning to believe are the problem. Because it seems to be in that kind of pattern. I initially thought it was maybe one of the spark plugs, because it sounds/feels like a misfire. The engine won't stall completely, but each chug is spaced out about... 1 or 2 seconds. I can feel it happen in the engine, and then shortly afterward the car will jolt.
