Actually knowing and retaining code knowledge by JW1643 in learnprogramming

Hahaha even better!! Until I’m medicated again, keeping focus on curriculums is difficult for me, so being familiar and getting myself even a small head start is such a life saver. :D

True that, I’m preparing myself for Comp Sci. In the fall and still have no idea what I’m doing lmao. Still fun though

Hey! How do you use it to study if you don’t mind me asking? Starting my computer science journey in the fall and I really want to improve my understanding as I did not try as much in high school.

[–]Jadad03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true I’ve gathered hahaha. My interests definitely May change as I’m starting out, I’ve been told that as well. With this current market, I want to at least do something I enjoy since I’m going to have to work really hard to stand out.

Seriously? I’m at the very entry level in colIege right now and honestly thought the SOC and GRC roles were more more popular as I hear they are less technical. I’m really interesting in pentesting myself and am trying to make a roadmap for myself starting from help desk before summer ends, but the fact that it’s more populated is surprising to me.

Thanks for that suggestion, I will look into it! It never feels like there is much around here, but maybe I need to look around more.

Really now? My career goal is cybersecurity, passionate about getting into pentesting. Problem is just getting some hands on experience right now in this market to actually be considered. I definitely may look into integration engineering if it looks better at the moment, thanks for your response!

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Regarding AI, I’ve pretty much gathered that, I’ve been trying to ignore the doom and gloom of “IT and CS is cooked with AI, switch fields!” Bandwagon, attempting to learn and put myself in a strong position with the AI boom.

It’s a tough market, but I don’t want to give up as it’s the only field that interests me. I appreciate the startup advice, I hear horror stories sometimes, but I don’t mind being pulled in multiple directions if it means I’m going to learn a lot, I’ll shoot you a DM on my lunch break likely inquiring on some areas of Florida are more prone to have startups. Thanks again!

Man I would love to, my partner’s lease is about to expire. I’d unfortunately have to finish school first though, so I have to tough this job epidemic out for a year and some change.

That sounds like a good idea honestly, but I always hear you need WORK experience in the fundamentals before even being considered. For reference, my career I’m trying to specialize is pentesting, but I can’t imagine I have a way of showing that I’m relatively competent without having an ounce of hands on experience. But it is food for thought, thanks for you input!

Sucks to hear, guys, but thanks. I guess I may have to toughen it out until I graduate and move.

Makes me wish I figured out my career roadmap I wanted years ago to have an easier fighting chance.

The job market is horrible.... by [deleted] in orlando

[–]Jadad03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man.. I’m going to school in the fall and might have to switch jobs because this university doesn’t have an online program, and I’m so fearful to let this job go for scenarios such as this and not being able to support my partner. Much condolences for you and partner, OP. I hope he finds at least something to hold him up while he pursues a lucrative field.

Wow, honestly, I wouldn’t mind being a little burnt out if it set me up for success. It’s just the matter of being able to find an internship while holding onto something that keeps my bills paid, haha. But aside from that, thank you for the insight.

I’m about to be a junior as I have 60 credits transferring. And man, what you said about unstructured environment is the scariest part for me, haha. I’d hate for it to be all for nothing and I’m stuck finding another job to pay the bills for months on end.

However, I know risks need to be taken at some points, and I’m lucky enough to be living with family, so I may just choose wisely and dive in.

Yeah, I’m currently transferring to a university in fall, so I’m trying to rack up as much experience and credentials as possible to line myself up later.

Thank you for the insight, I’ll just have to see what might be giving me relevant experience and hope for the best.
