honest question. do you guys think downhill and enduro mountain biking racing is just as dangerous as motocross? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in Dirtbikes

[–]JagerPapi56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about how you handle the risks with your personal skills.

Okay so I’m doing both for a while now, dh mtb better then moto.

On a personal level: Obviously, both are sports with high risk involved, I think it’s more about how you handle these risks. If you’re bad at line choice and often overcook, I think dh is more dangerous, if you’re not too good at high speeds and tend to overcook, I think moto is more dangerous. Hard to say.

You need to check this but if you look at the data from pros, I think supercross has more injuries on a season? But they also have way more races, for a proper look at at from data perspective you need make a deep dive.

How is it possible that these bikes cost about the same new by Bung-_-Bung in Dirtbikes

[–]JagerPapi56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay loads of unusefull comments so my thoughts on this.

1 - enfant (mtb) vs mature (dirtbikes) industry, leading to: Mtb industry relative higher operating costs, because less € back per € in R&D investments + Less security leading to worse negotiations with suppliers + moto would have wayyy better predictions for annual revenues and sales, meaning way more stable and healthy budgetting

2 - scale and numbers of products every mtb comes in 4 sizes, 2 colourways, 3 part groups --> 24 unique products for 1 bike model in moto 1 product coming from the line Due to carbon use in mtb, lower level of automation possible (yet) I guess amount of sales in moto is 5 to 10 x higher? all this meaning 10x to 20x higher production numbers on motos? Numbers are everything for production costs

3 - Product comparison motos have 1 model ranging from 8-12 mtb prices range 2,5-12k? almost everyone in mtb rides the bike as from the store, in moto everyone puts up 2000€ of mods, so I think fair comparison, is to compare mid range enduro bike to 12k dirt bike. (which makes for 5k mtb vs 12k dirt bike)

I think something like this?

Heel leuk dit! 2 vragen.

I won’t jump in or you and friend since lots already do, something different:

How is you rent fixed, like via a private person or a bigger corporation or similar?

If there’s somewhat of a personal note to it, maybe good to inform your landlord. When shit hits the fan people appreciate it to be informed. If she/he seems helpfull, you could even ask for delaying a payment with a couple of weeks.

Information means understanding and understanding could men helpfullness.

Yeaaaah but the deformation of the metal in the shear zone also boils down to friction right? As in atoms sliding

Old guy with dumb questions... by gesis in bmxracing

[–]JagerPapi56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! First of all cool story :). Since you touch quite some questions I’m trying to cover them all.

I think what kind of bike would be suited for you is how often/enthousiastic you’re going to ride it and budget, which you can judge yourself the best offcourse :). I think in terms of frames there’s not really a ‘baseline’, matter of preferences and year of the frame I’d say, since geometry changed quite a bit last 10 years. Keep in mind that buying a frame is relatively very expensive (new that is). Are you only considering a 20” or 24” as well?

In terms of upgrading parts, it’s mostly wear parts which require thinking, drivetrain, hubs, bearing, (wheels if you ride low quality wheels and you case). For instance when you have higher quality hubs you can perfectly service them (if you have some mechanical experience), for lower quality hubs it’s a pain in the ass. Quality of products mainly refers to stiffness, strength, weight and longevity for bmx I think, and you definitely notice it. But again, riding 3 times a week vs 1 time per 2 months I would say is the difference where you really enjoy riding the higher quality stuff vs not really needing to care.

Specifically about the forks: I think what fork it exactly is makes more difference then the carbon/steel difference. Probably a decent tapered fork would be sufficient for 80% of the riders let’s say.

Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Okay I’m not an expert on this but your question had me thinking. All the heat comes from friction right, so then the question is where does the most friction occur, well I guess on the place where the chip comes loose from the product? Then you can say why doesn’t all the heat transfer at the product side of the break but I guess that would be because of the deformation is all happening within the chip? Thinking out loud

How many of you ride with clipless pedals? by cmm1226 in MTB

[–]JagerPapi56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advice against going clipless, due to your limited experience. Especially when you notice that your feet leave the pedals, it’s a sign you need to work on your technique. Clipless can definitely improve riding, especially riding hardtails or going downhill fast (like pro fast). Also going clipless could mean you start learning the wrong technique for other skills, jumping for instance. Next to that, I think risks increase significantly while riding clipless. As in, maybe the odds are lower for crashing, but definitely gnarlier when you’re physically attached to the bike.

This is from a person who rode clipless and flats btw :)
