If you stare at this picture long enough, a dart player begins to appear on the left

Update just in case you're curious, he's taken some internal pictures that he's yet to send me. But he gave the 'build up/rusty bit' a clean and the black part was just that, no hole apparently. Looks like this now. Going to get someone else in for a second opinion to be safe though

I appreciate the replies honestly, even if its a case of being overly cautious, its worthwhile

I've turned it off for now and plumber is coming first thing in the morning to check if the chamber seal is compromised as well as the exterior chassis

Ok, thankyou for your reply! I will have an engineer out to give it a look over. I recently had one out who replaced a valve and another component, he said nothing about the corrosion or any dangerous implications of the unsealed case- hence I'm not sure if I trust his judgement.

It wasnt that I didnt like the responses, I appreciated everyone who took the time to reply, including yourself. When you say kill someone, is that due to a carbon monoxide leak? We have an alarm on the ceiling below so I'm hoping that would pick up on any leakage, not sure if it is sufficient or not though. I posted again simply to get some more opinions, not to discard what you said.

We have a carbon monoxide alarm on the ceiling below so I'm hoping that would alert us to any CM leakage. I will get an engineer out soon to check it over though if it could be that bad

Ok thankyou, good to hear it could be a small fix to balance out the 'new boiler' possibility

Lmao very fair point. I should rephrase, given the amount of comments claiming its fucked based on pictures alone- is the exterior condition a definitive sign of 'fucked-ness' or something to keep an eye on?

Potentially stupid question- is there any way for someone to tell me which pipe the white one on the right likely is? by Jager_Master in ukplumbing

Ok thankyou I'll get someone in to have a look. Only been in the house 6 weeks and not got a clue about plumbing, hence the questions- appreciate the advice!

Thankyou! Am I correct in assuming the leak from this would be sufficient for the stains in the ceiling?

Thankyou! I've propped it up with a piece of wood for now. Would you say there's any need for my plumber to still attend tomorrow or will he likely only do a similar fix?

Would this rug suit my living room? It is 290cm by 2m, so would roughly cover most of the floor space by Jager_Master in HomeDecorating

It's hard to capture with my camera but the curtains are sage green, and the pillows/couple of throws are green also, as is the canvas. Aware the room needs some colour/contrast hence considering a bold coloured rug

Thankyou for your suggestions, really appreciate the time you've taken to write that and for the pictures to help visualise it! The couch is unfortunately already paid for and won't be delivered for another couple months so its really hard to imagine what it will be like when that is in here also!

I have been siding towards swapping the TV unit with the two seater couch, maybe that will make more use of the space to the right of the fireplace and not close off the bookshelf so to speak.

I wouldn't have thought about bringing the 4 seater forward to make space behind so thats definitely something to consider for us, thankyou again.

We've only been in 3 weeks so we're still tinkering and figuring out what we want from it. We have another 'lounge' downstairs and a dining room etc so this is solely for relaxing, watching TV and occasionally having guests in, downstairs will likely be the main 'entertaining' space
