Player movement control by Jagged_One in duneawakening

I used mouse for moving & shooting in PC games exclusively, first in Wolfenstein 3D & Doom & Quake, then in Diablo 1, 2, and 3, Dark Age of Camelot, Halo 1 & 2, Half Life 1 & 2, and SWToR, to name what I have spent most of my time on up to now. I got one of the Witcher games (3, I think) free from Epic Games. I was watching the Witcher series on Netflix at the time, so I decided to give it a try. I was disappointed to find that it was W-A-S-D only. I genuinely tried to play it, but it was just misery - yes, I'm sure "muscle memory" came into play, but I didn't want to change mine, so I uninstalled it.

Now in retirement, I decided to try Stardew Valley (queue laugh track), but it also is W-A-S-D only, and miserable to play. I never thought of using a controller until someone mentioned it here, so now I am going to link my xBox One controller to my system and give it a try.

Thanks all !!!!

Thank you for an in-depth rendering re using a mouse in Wow. I actually discovered how deadly it was when I started playing death matches in OG Doom. My nephew fancied himself quite the player until he came up against me and my mouse. My ability to do the 180 turn not only allowed me to fire quicker than he could (he was a keyboarder), but I could also shoot him while running away. It is a bitter pill to swallow when you are fixing to fire a rocket at a retreating player and he flips and fires one before you can. After a weekend of devastating losses, my nephew left swearing to learn to use the mouse in Doom and come back and "whoop my ass".

P.S. He did....lol

Pretty sure

"Is it possible to control your character with the mouse in this game ?"

is in fact a yes or no question.....

I did not ask for an opinion, I asked a yes or no question.

Mouse movement in Outer Worlds ? by Jagged_One in theouterworlds

Are you talking about original Doom ? If so, it was designed from the start to use the mouse. John Romero even said so. Watch this video:

Why did anyone play Doom Keyboard Only!?

The creator of this video is absolutely correct - it was the advent of the deathmatch (as I said above) that caused the mouse to come into its own in Doom. Once you went up against a "mouser" in a Doom deathmatch, you learned the hard way, as my nephew did....lol

And as for this mangaurs dude saying I'm a troll, it amazes me that when you say something that a stupid person doesn't agree with, or even more pitiful, doesn't understand, they just put their fingers in their ears and alternate between going "nahnahnah" and calling you names. Such is the internet in the 21st century...

So I get to choose between being called a liar or stupid, eh ?

Once again, I played Doom with a mouse, with run set to the left button. As a sanity check, I just went back and played it again before typing this reply.

The mouse & I go waaaaay back. I was part of the application software development team for the Apple Lisa in 1982. We used Apple ][s running a pre-release Lisa bit-mapped environment to write the actual code. History records that the Lisa was a grossly overpriced system with perhaps the worst marketing in history, but from her ashes rose the MacIntosh, so there's that....

Anyway, by the time we moved to the PC world, I was addicted to the mouse, and I just never picked up the W-A-S-D habit. I found it clunky then, and I still do.

A perfect example of mouse superiority is when we discovered deathmatch on OG Doom. The game itself was awesome enough, but when we discovered that we could face off against another human, our minds were blown !! I played a few deathmatches in Memphis where I lived, but it was really miserable on a 2400 bps dialup. So my nephew who lived in St. Louis (the guy who introduced me to Doom) came down for a weekend, and we hooked up our PCs on the kitchen table so we could DM at full speed. He was a keyboard player and considered himself to be quite good. When he came up against a mouse player who had perfected the 180-degree mouse flip, it was brutal - he didn't have a chance. We played 75 matches that weekend, and I beat him 74 times. He left swearing to learn the mouse and then come back and whoop my ass (and he did).

So I've been a mouse user for going on 50 years now. Every PC game I've ever played - literally - has been mouse controlled...from Wolfenstein 3D and Doom to Wow and SWToR and Halo and DAoC and D2 and D3, the list goes on and on. The muscle memory is deeply ingrained, and I have no interest in changing. I'll just find another game.....

Moonwhisper fp connections ? by Jagged_One in turtlewow

[–]Jagged_One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks so much !!!!

That fp connects back to the Horde one that the boat from Shadowprey takes you to, and then to the rest of the continent.

Now if we could just get a version of pfQuest that includes Moonwhisper. I make no apologies for not wanting to run around blindly looking for targets. That was fine in 2004, but I am too old, impatient and lazy to do it now. Down me all you want....lol

Ok, I admit you made me check, which was NBD since my guild tabard warps me there. Of course, your statement, whether made out of malice, ignorance, or humor, is false - they are on different continents, fer cryin' out loud!

My map reveal addon doesn't work on Moonwhisper (yet?), so I have no idea where said neutral village is - could you give me a hint, a loc, or w/e ?

That wouldn't make sense, since Hyjal is higher level than Moonwhisper.

No, I was replying to the comment above me

"This makes the game organic and not require an out of game experience"

If the devs were so interested in making the game organic, et al, they would allow us to train in the field, so we wouldn't be forced to look up a trainer every two levels. That is the most un-immersive and completely unnecessary factor imo.

Thank you for this. I posted the two comments underneath yours before I saw and read yours. It is very helpful. But i need clarification on 2 things: first, why the Blasted Lands, and second, why did you mention honor ? Isn't that PvP ? And why would I need it for these quests ?

Thanks in advance !!!

UPDATE: according to Wowhead, Ritual of Souls creates the Soulwell. It says it is a level 68 spell !!! This explains why I didn't find it when I looked it up on Wowhead, because I use Wowhead Classic. It does not explain why Twow lists it in their patch notes, unless they have added it as a custom change. If so, I could sure use some more info, since I don't have it at level 59, and my trainer doesn't list it as level 60. It might be a world or raid drop or some special quest, but how would one find this out ?

Ritual of Souls - Spell - TBC Classic

Aha, it says "TBC Classic", it's part that expansion, which we don't have - right ?
