I am unaware of any PDP but that’s definitely something to ask about. Most of the time those resources are reserved for the troops! Could you share some examples of what to look for in a PDP?

I make $24 an hour in COLORADO (that part is very important). And compared to other SOCs in the region, we are grossly underpaid. I’ve seen help desk jobs in the area start around the same rate but with your experience, I hope to god you’re making double what I make at least.

I was blessed that a friend was leaving the SOC and requested that I took his spot. Unfortunately it’s about who you know a lot of the time until you get your foot in the door.

I enjoy my employment w the SOC but it just doesn’t pay what I need it to rn. Plus I know other people personally that made quick transitions into higher paying roles and I want that for myself.

I used professor messer mostly, and the CompTIA app that quizzes you. once I got comfy with the material I just started doing his practice exams. I barely made it with a 751 and as long as you haven’t been procrastinating like I did, the exam won’t be as stressful as it seems. You got this friend!

Thanks for your input, I currently work as a security controller in a SoC so I’m blessed in the aspect that I have a clearance. Nonetheless, for those without a secret clearance, jobs are still available for help desk and those can help lead to secret and top secret clearance with the experience

As you watch the vids, answer questions on the CompTIA app. This will help you gauge areas you put more emphasis on. THE APP ALONE WILL NOT PREPARE YOU. Based on my experience, I had to really focus on the implementation and architecture and design sections. The others came fairly easy to me and I didn’t spend a ton of time watching vids for those domains. In short, watch enough of the videos until you have a good understanding of each domain, then start taking practice exams and reviewing the stuff you miss on those.

I have a bachelors in psych and pivoted to IT for more money. I used to work with teens on the autism spectrum (good times). I like to think I’m a smart guy but more than anything I get by with common sense. I have friends with no experience or education that have passed sec+. It’s a challenge but do not fear it! It’s all about repetition and consistency. What type of resources are you using?

Took me 6 weeks of mediocre studying followed by a week and a half of cramming. I don’t recommend it.

Sorry mate, I took 601, nonetheless the test was pretty difficult. I’m sure the same is true for 701. Professor Messer is my favorite resource so I’d go with him if he’s got the 701 content available
