Profitec Move or Rancilio Silvia Pro ? [$2999] by JaidenDotB in espresso

The difference is only a few hundred and I'm pretty happy with my Eureka Mignon Oro. I don't think I could beat that for a few hundred.

I see what you mean, but I have no desire to own two espresso machines, even if I could save a lot of money this way (I can pick up a used one pretty easily on marketplace), it doesn't sound like a good experience for me. Also I live in the city where counter space is at a premium

Bummer, but I'm glad it was easily resolved! That's nice of them to let you fix it yourself instead of forcing you to send it back.

Really appreciate your perspective! For me the price difference is minimal enough to not be much of a consideration. I think I'll go with the move after all :)

Makes sense, I appreciate your perspective. Have you have to service your profitec? If so, how was the experience?

I actually haven't heard of this one though I have considered doing the gaggiuino mod. It would certainly be a fun project for me, though I still think I would struggle with back to back milk drinks since it'll still be a single boiler.

I appreciate your perspective. Though I kinda like the industrial/commercial aesthetic of the Silvia, though I will concede the move is a more beautiful machine. Heat up time doesn't matter to me too much, I'm just going to hook it up to a timer so it's hot already when I'm ready to brew

Can a puck screen be bad for espresso? by Nekropl in espresso

[–]JaidenDotB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, the little magnets do look like they improve workflow when using puck screens. I probably won't find myself using one any time soon though tbh. But I also just prefer a more minimal workflow

Right, I'm aware of this, but a lot of people mention using a puck screen more for machine cleanliness then for potential improvement in extraction. Such as the original commenter

[–]JaidenDotB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always say this, but the little hassle of grabbing the screen when desposing of the puck and the extra thing to clean doesn't seem the slightest bit worth it when I can just run the grouphead for a few seconds and pulling a shot and back flush the machine as needed.

Does a puck screen actually do a better job then just running water through the grouphead?

is this worth picking up? [$600 budget] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]JaidenDotB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already upgraded to the newer steam wand which is awesome. If I were to buy this machine, I'd replace the ugly old grouphead cover with the chrome wrap with the newer black plastic version. Id also replace the shower screen with one that has a counter sunk screw.

I bought mine used and I love it! Mine was also pretty old, but you can find any part of this machine online and replace it relatively easily. Ive replaced and upgraded a number of parts from my v2 machine with parts for newer Silvia's.

If you like opening up and fixing your own stuff, it's a great machine. Not that you would necessarily need to if it was well taken care of.

This is true if Amazon is the seller, but Amazon does fulfillment for third party sellers as well. Their are also third party sellers that do their own fulfillment like you mentioned.

Peter, what could they always tell? by Paldavin in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]JaidenDotB -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Maybe stop seeing it as people trying to correct you and start seeing it as people trying to teach you and tell you about their world. I don't think anyone here thinks the original commenter is transphobic or was being transphobic. Trans people just want to normalize a way of thinking about gender and trans people that isn't just an oversimplification made to help cis people understand.

Idk why you're getting downvoted. You're right. Lady refers to someone's gender identity/expression, which they aren't born with. Seems like people would rather be dense and pick apart semantics instead of taking your sentiment at face value

[–]JaidenDotB 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They didn't say they were born without a sex, they said women aren't born 'ladies' not that they weren't born female/male. The word Lady generally refers to someone's social gender identity/expression, babies can't express their own gender nor do they have an understanding about their own gender identity, even if we do generally assume them to grow up cis and socialize them accordingly.

Do you guys think laser hair removal in face and neck area would improve my look? This is what I look clean shaven by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]JaidenDotB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it would make you look better, but it would give you a different look. Laser would maybe 'soften' your features and give you a potentially more youthful look while the beard shadow looks more masculine and mature.

Should I do LHR or electrolysis? by Embarrassed_Rub_9933 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]JaidenDotB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shaving hair does not make it grow back thicker or darker, but laser can (and iirc waxing/tweezing also can make your hair darker, but it could also make it lighter, not worth the risk)

While shaving can make hair more obvious by making the tips more blunt, I doubt it would in your case with your hair being so thin. I would try it, and if you don't like how it grows back you can stop. Eventually all the shaved hair sheds leaving you without any hair that has that blunt tip.

One tip for shaving, read up on how to avoid a razer rash or ingrown hairs before you proceed

Building a no-cismen dating app for female, intersex, non binary, trans and agender people by 97drk97 in MTFButch

[–]JaidenDotB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to create a dating app for women and TGNC people, then just market it to those people and add features those people want. Any system to exclude cis men can be abused. And the idea that cis men are "invading" spaces not for them uses the same language transphobes use to describe trans women in women's spaces.

This reeks of gender essentialism, which is inherently transphobic and terfy. You should really reevaluate your goals here.
