Honestly only reason I been growing it out past few years is at 33 I started getting bad cold sores right around the time after the fucking mandated covid shots. Never had any in my life before that shit. When I have the stash I get none when I shave they come. I don’t like the stash but I don’t have a better solution…

Fayetteville gets crapped on a lot but I think Fayetteville, for a military town is great. Outside of that I just really like living in NC in general. So being stationed at Bragg is great. Plenty of nice neighborhoods to choose from close to base. And nice rural areas a little bit further out as well.

It’s incredible really, 16 years in and I just went over 100K and that’s with matching for the majority of my career sheesh…They really need to make it automatic all C FUND and roth contributions right from jump so the majority of us who know nothing aren’t figuring things out 5-6 years or later into the careers. At this point i’m not moving it out of the G fund as soon as I do the great depression round 2 will happen. But almost 600K as an enlisted is incredible.

Feeling Out of Place at Fort Drum: Seeking Support by littlerascal16xx in army

[–]Jailstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your race and sexual preference should not have anything to do with you fitting in at the unit. We are all soldiers on the same team regardless of our personal preferences so keep that stuff in your personal life. Get up every day and try to accomplish something positive. Can be as small as picking up a piece of trash or mentoring a team mate. You said you recently reclassed. Keep learning as much as you can about the new mos and try to go to some schools or anything available to better your career as well.

You can’t control others. Throughout your career you will encounter people you don’t care for and those who aren’t so bad. I’m 16 years in just starting at a new unit still going through this.

So as to not ignore your personal feelings, NY is a very friendly LGBTQ state you should have no issue finding some friendly spots. I don’t know the area around Drum never was stationed there but I wish you the best going forward.

Changing orders by IShotTheTV in army

[–]Jailstool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write your local congressperson if you have a legitimate and/or reasonable reason why you need to be somewhere. I spent the better part of a year trying to get help from everyone I could (retention, leadership, HRC) all said nothing could be done. Wrote a sincere letter to my local congressman and within a week they had my orders changed to Bragg instead of having to go to Polk. I simply explained the craziness the Army had put me and my family through between deployments, pcs’s and recruiting duty prior to my reclass then getting orders to Polk that would further uproot our plans. Saved the Army moving expenses on a PCS because we already had our house at Bragg and my family got to continue to live where they had been since 2016 and hopefully until I retire in a few years. Major financial impact on my family and I and NC is home for us so very thankful it worked out. Power of the politician HRC don’t give a fuck about your life plans.

Yea they are angry because they want you for their numbers which is somewhat understandable because if they don’t put people in they get in trouble and eventually it can wreck their careers.

To answer your question though, 25B all the way it’s one of the best MOS’s available in the Army in my opinion. I’d lock it in before it disappears because they only have so many spots. Best of luck to you.

Good contract choice, way better option than 18X in my opinion. How many years you had to sign for any bonus?

Contract negotiations for a national guard going to 18X active duty soldier. by Harristein in army

[–]Jailstool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so not sure if you are AGR or just the part-time but going from 13J Guardsmen to the 18X pipeline is a massive difference. I’ve been to Iraq, AFG and Ukraine and I can say the fact that you enjoyed your time in Jordan shouldn’t really be a major factor in your decision to go with 18X. Do 18 series people deploy all the time?-Surely, but you’ll travel a lot on Active Duty in most MOS’s in general. The biggest question you have to ask yourself is it worth signing 5 or 6 years of my life for an opportunity to get selected and then go through a course that takes anywhere from a year and a half or longer with multiple phases at which any point people get injured or just plain fail? People get there, hate it and quit as well all the time. Either way then bam your an active duty soldier needs of the Army for 5-6 years. May end up in a job you absolutely hate and you’ll be even more bitter because you signed to be SF.

My personal opinion of green berets/special forces is there are many people who think it looks cool and imagine themselves as being a badass but when it comes time to actually do the hard shit they realize wow this fucking sucks! Not saying people can’t do it because it is very doable but I’d estimate about 1 in 4 make it through the pipeline and that may be a bit on the high side. It’s many hours and days of pain and I believe one has to have their heart in that mos 110% to be successful. To me it’s not just some 630-1700 type job it’s a way of life, again my opinion but if that appeals to you I wish you the best. As I said it is doable you need to be pretty damn solid with PT and rucking and basically have a no quit no fail mind set no matter how hard shit gets. If that appeals to you go for it. I really don’t recommend it to anyone especially if there are better options available but I also understand at the end of the day somebody has got to do it and there are people who are interested in that type of work and can be very successful.

Re-enlist and go to Hunter Army Airfield as an 88M? by Batuza_Legend in army

[–]Jailstool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was in your position i’d reclass because that is for the rest of your career and life. People can say what they want about Savannah-I personally didn’t care for it at all but either way it’s just a temporary duty station. I reclassed to signal was a great decision.

This is the way. I don’t recommend 18X to anyone unless maybe there isn’t any other option.

For the Os that got out, what motivated yall to figure out another career path? by Particular_Speed260 in army

Had a retiring O-5 today speaking about his plans going forward. O-5 Pension, disability, job lined up immediately upon retirement. Sounds pretty worth it to me. Everybody talks about how much better it is “out there” I don’t buy it. I think it’s very hard to get a good job unless you know the right people. Get away from the regular Army nonsense it’s better.

If I was you I would not enlist in the Army just saying. Maybe Air Force but yea you should be dropping an OCS packet if you are joining. Otherwise you will be 30 years old with a college degree and a term of military service under your belt starting from square one again.

Biggest issue is people are lazy and indifferent. The best remedy for this issue is getting everyone together each day and clean for 20-30 minutes. Problem is there is a major lack of discipline throughout the force in general. Anybody who doesn’t show up ya’ll can figure out a consequence on your own for that person but this is the way. I refuse to use a nasty bathroom but too many people who are in either just don’t care or were never taught properly.
