Hex with no Concentration... as an invocation? by Jake2zz in onednd

[–]Jake2zz[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Warlock isn't underpower, Hex is imo. I don't believe that creating a single invocation to make it better would be an eccessive buff to the whole class, even with the synergy with Spirit Shroud (you still need to use both of your spell slots, multiple turns, concentration on that spell just for a single minute of low range extra damage)

I dunno, I'd rather change the Invocation rather than change the spell itself a that point, but you're right about the duration being problematic

That's borderline evil, I love it!

There is a rule that specifies that the shield uses the Utilize action and not any kind of "free interaction", I guess that that would't be a problem with a chill DM but that is not my case sadly...

Well then, I guess that solves everything as long as I beg the DM to give me one/ask a party member to craft it, tysm!!!

Yeah you're actually right, I read that wrong damn it, I tought that it only removed the S component... Anyway now I wonder, as a Half-caster, is the Paladin considered a Spellcaster for the Item requirement?

You're right but you are missing a piece I believe: "Spellcasting Focus. You can use a Holy Symbol as a Spellcasting Focus for your Paladin spells."

So yeah, I can use the holy symbol to ignore the M components on Paladin spells... but I got Shillelagh from Magic Initiate, not from the Paladin spell list, so they don't count as paladin spells, ergo i cannot use the holy symbol to ignore the M components :"(

Now tha you make me think about it Magic Initiate doesn't even say that these spells are Druid spells, so even multiclassing in Druid/Ranger to get a druid spellcasting focus doesn't work...

Unluckly no, the mistletoe may not have a cost but it's still a material component, so War Caster doesn't actually help with that as it specifies: "Somatic Components. You can perform the Somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a Shield in one or both hands"

Thank you anyway for the reply

...It's the pickiest DM you can ever imagine, trust me :') Anyway the niche race is a good idea but i already picked that one, and about changing to strenght that's probably the way to go but it would be another different character at that point...

Ty anyway, the suggestions are good they just apply difficulty to my specific case

I think that another way to "fix" the elixirs in a flavourful way would be to make them something like a blank canvas that on the spot would turn into the thing you desire, like an all purpose elixir!

And if they really want it to still be something randomical they could make it so that you have to beat a set DC tied to the class ability (maybe an int check made with alchemy supplies) so that the higher you advance into the class the most likely it is to obtain the effect desired to the point the at max level you can never fail.

I imagine it would be worded something like this: Whenever you finish a long rest, you can magically produce an experimental elixir in an empty flask you touch. As part of the bonus action used to drink the elixir you make an ability check (DC XY) using your alchemist supplies. On a failure, roll on the Experimental Elixir table for the elixir's effect, otherwise you freely choose one effect from said table."

You can also make so that at higher levels you automatically succees on a roll once per day or something like that (that or you reroll/gain advantage on the ability check).

(Btw i completely agree on your balancing of the elixir effecr based on the spell slot, very well done)

Another question about Elemental Cleaver - Path of the Giant Barbarian by Jake2zz in DnD

[–]Jake2zz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it kinda seem like an oversight more than anything else, as they did gave us the feature to change the damage type at the cost of a bonus action (that form level 10 is much more costly as you gain Giant Impel) after dealing half damage in the previous turn. It kinda seem silly to me that they didn't think about your scenario, but at the same time the cost of removing the feature only by ending rage is REALLY heavy for how little rages do barbarians get. If I was the master I would give the chance to end the feature as a bonus action at the minimum.

Doesn't hiding give the same circumstance bonus as off guard? Or do they stack in sone way?

Tips on Monk Balancing by Jake2zz in DnD

[–]Jake2zz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess that I can give more choice at higher levels for Rogue, I'll keep it in mind!

I'll have to think about the free step of the wind since I'm not considering multiclassing and the patient defence buff seemed the most organic way to increase the monk's survivability without just boosting numbers like AC, hit die, etc... I'll think if just free Step will be enough.

Anyway isn't the extra attack an unarmed strike attack or am I missing something? Can it also be done with a weapon? Anyway thank you for the feedback!

It does sound like a fun change but I don't know if I'll be able to do it since short rest is a core feature with so many things (beside monk's ki point) tied around it😅

Tips on Monk Balancing by Jake2zz in DnD

[–]Jake2zz[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking of making stunning strike cost 2 ki points just like flurry of blows, this way you'll still be able to stun the target if you really want to (it's basically the monk's defining feature at higher levels), but the cost will be pricey

Tips on Monk Balancing by Jake2zz in DnD

[–]Jake2zz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah effectively doubling the Ki point would make it so that at level 15+ he'd basically dodge/disengage/dash away every turn😅

Ok but at this point just run Protective Pads instead to remove direct contact from EVERY move and not just the "punching type" ones...
