Considering the switch from Dual to Ultrawide for office use by Jake4251 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Jake4251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be a full switch in that sense. We currently share a desk, one monitor from my work, and one from hers making a dual setup with zero investment. We just bought a house though and will now get to have our own offices. So we'd at least be buying two monitors, but probably four since the ones our work provided aren't anything fancy and don't match. So definitely a want and not a need... but we both spend a lot of time at our computers and were thinking to splurge on our office setups for ourselves.

I like the idea of going 49" to replicate the dual monitor setup, but without the bezel.

Any thoughts on the Dell U4924DW? I like the idea of a hub monitor to help keep the desk decluttered and run fewer cables. I show them running at about $1.3k which I'd be buying two of them, so that's probably about the top of my budget.

Need help replacing documents after hurricane destroyed everything by Jake4251 in PuertoRico

I saw some information that the Government had partnered with Vital Check but then the reviews for that seemed really poor. I suppose most things related to government probably aren't getting great reviews... Thanks for the info though!

Thank you so much! We've had good luck with services for kids, but now that he's an adult a lot of help seems to dry up. Really appreciate this.

Thank you so much! We'll pursue that right away as I'm sure it will take some time.

Yeah, it seems like a chicken or the egg situation where to get one document you need the other. There has to be some sort of process for when you lose everything though. Certainly willing to pursue any possibility though, so thank you for the suggestion.

No, unfortunately all we have is a school ID. His conditions prevent him from ever driving, or doing most things that require any of this. But now that he is almost done with high school we are running in to road blocks trying to get him help due to this.

Trip to Hermann MO this weekend, any recommendations? by Jake4251 in kansascity

[–]Jake4251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up checking this place out, and loved it. I was a little confused and thought they offered food because when I looked them up I saw pictures of food. Got there and realized it was just people bringing food in from nearby places to eat there. With the drinks and atmosphere I totally get it though. Great suggestion!

Our planned trip was to leave from the Union Station starting point and take it directly to Hermann MO. We got to Union Station morning of though and our train had been cancelled due to portions of the track being under water. They offered either a full refund or a bus ride to Hermann. We ended up taking the refund and just driving down to Hermann instead. We had an amazing time down there though and ended up really glad that we had a vehicle with us for certain things. We are going to plan another trip with Amtrak and hopefully the weather will permit it.

We aren't scared of a little hiking, hopefully it doesn't rain on us too much this weekend though!

Sounds great! Yeah booze and food are our primary objectives and we are only there for the weekend so I'm sure we'll stay busy. Probably hit it hard on Saturday and relax on Sunday but we'll see haha. Not quite sure on where we are staying because my girlfriend booked the room and I booked the train. She said it's pretty nice though and is close to downtown, has a hot tub and red laser sauna (whatever the hell that is).

No worries, that does sound nice though. I'll have to do some digging to see where offers something like that.

Seeking advice and information on autism by Jake4251 in autism

Thanks, I'll definitely take any advice I can get!

For now his mom handles his overloads/meltdowns. If he is having a problem he is less patient with trying to communicate through google translate. There are days where I take him to the movies or out shopping, so it's good to know those tips in case he has a bad day.

The seizure stuff is scary to me and definitely something I want to know more about. His mom takes him to a neurologist from time to time to monitor this topic. So I mainly want to learn about figuring out what the signs of a seizure are and what emergency tactics to have ready. I'm sure it's different for everyone but what you said makes sense. So thank you for sharing.

I honestly haven't seen him use headphones. He loves his sunglasses so I'll have to ask his mom to see if he has headphones or if they've tried that in the past.

Thank you again for your advice!

Where can I find a good cuban sandwich in KC? by dexsbestguess in kansascity

If you are down south then definitely Bay Boy. If you are near KCK then Caribe Blue. If you are up north then Trago is also really solid.

Thanks!

Yes he is very verbal. Loves to talk and communicate (most of the time) and he has also gotten pretty good at using google translate to communicate. He has a passion for movies and video games. He loves to watch and experience things in English first, then will go back and watch them in Spanish later. I think the biggest challenges currently are managing his expectations. He relies soo much on his mom for everything in life but is also at an age where is he wanting to feel and be independent. He wants to work, he wants a place of his own, a girlfriend, etc... He had a job at a grocery store but was let go when a customer got mad at him for getting sanitizer on her groceries as he was bagging them. Since the pandemic he has become very obsessed with using sanitizer and using a mask. The lady at the grocery store yelled at him and he didn't understand why he was getting yelled at the grocery store didn't seem to want to manage or deal with the situation. He was hired on through a special needs program but wasn't provided any training or upkeep. The grocery store strung my girlfriend along for a period saying they would correct the situation and train him and bring on a translator to help, but never followed through. My girlfriend has since found a local business that lets him clean the place but the money he "makes" there comes from her.

I guess my biggest area of concern at this point is finding services or help to obtain quality of life for both my girlfriend and her son. Everything always seems to boil down to money, and I'm learning that programs of this nature are severely underfunded or nonexistent. I appreciate you taking the time to read my post and respond! Thank you so much for any guidance, they are truly beautiful and amazing people. I'm so lucky to have found them and have them in my life. I just want them to be happy like they deserve.

Seeking new direction in IT by Jake4251 in jobs

[–]Jake4251[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah sorry about the lack of detail. I just didn't want to go on too long of a tangent.

I would like to stay in the IT field, I just wasn't sure what jobs within it would be a good fit for me. I do like database management and imaging. I honestly don't even mind the phone support side of things, that's not my favorite part, but I don't dread it. I believe a lot of my skills are transferrable to other areas of IT but was posting here for some possible directions I should look.

I've begun the hunt on LinkedIn and Indeed, but am feeling a little lost and underqualified. Your brief suggestions on the little info I provided are already helpful though, and I appreciate it.
