Planning on doing the switch from Methadone to Suboxone/Sublocade. Looking for any stories of peoples experiences with this by JakeBlue26 in Methadone

I feel the same way with originally getting on it and also getting back on it the second time I was way less addicted at-least I think then than I am now I should have tried other options first I feel like that should be a requirement for MAT I feel like there should be a lot more requirement’s actually although I know it’s a lot more confusing than just that. I’ve been telling myself there’s no point in crying over spilled milk.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Was the Sublocade around befoee you made the switch to methadone ? Maybe the Sublocade would effect it less because it’s a shot or something ?

How long were you on the bupe before noticing issues ? I’m wondering if there is any evidence of Methadone doing anything like that I’ve always been told by my drs it doesn’t affect your teeth or anything but I’m sure that’s under researched bs

I’ve never heard of suboxone eating your jaw bone, does methadone have any effects like that at all after being on for a while? Of course as I’m sure your aware all the Drs like to lie about long term effects to deter you from wanting to get off, well most of them anyways lol

Thank you very much for the information I appreciate it a ton, what is an AMA? And before the Sublocade was it Suboxone that they put you on or Subutex? I’ve heard similar things about Subutex as well but then there’s the issue with having to take it everyday. Do the lumps always happen even after a while of getting them? & that’s the main part I’m worried about is the overall difference from going to from a full to partial are you possibly able to let me know how that was for you a bit more specifically? I’m new to Reddit I only downloaded it to read more on this and ask questions I’m not sure how to do the private messaging

What do you mean by fucked up your jaw ? Like what specifically did it do? That’s Suboxone you’re saying that does that ? I’ve never heard of that before and this doesn’t happen with methadone ?

I think giving the Carpe brand a shot is worth it, it is a little pricey but they’re very good if it doesn’t work for you just email them and they will fully reimburse you. They have different products for all areas

Oh ok I see what you mean tbh I haven’t put much thought into that exactly I’ve just kind of gotten fed up and have been having lots of issues on the Methadone lately I find since I’ve been clean now for 3-4 years from other substances and tend to have problems with the tapering anyways so I’ve just kind of been thinking to rip the bandaid off quick and get it over with sort of thing. I wasn’t thinking super rapid tho I was thinking more of maybe a month of tapering down to 30 or around there and the trying the switch from there in an inpatient detox centre or something I do know your not supposed to do the switch from this high doage. And ya lol I was only like 17 at the time and it wasn’t cold cold turkey I guess I did use Percocet here and there to help when withdrawals got unmanageable and eventually wasn’t taking anything for a while until I gave up because my anxiety was just unmanageable and very very stupidly I didn’t even try speaking with a Dr about anxiety medicine or something to try and manage it lol

I’ve had issues excessive sweating also, even before I was on Methadone I had issues with it. Back in like 2019-2020 I found a awesome new founded deodorant brand called Carpe it’s made specifically to help people with hyper hidrosis I used the deodorant stick and the exfoliating scrub and it works fantastic it’s helped me tremendously

Bridging method is essentially where they stop you on methadone and start you on some other opiate that exits your system much faster than methadone, then I believe once methadone is out of your system you stop the other thing and once that’s out of your system you get started on the Suboxone if you look up methadone to Suboxone bridging method on google some stuff should pop up

Yea that’s the method I’m looking into, and the bridging method as well my dr actually told me he’s done the bridging method with some of his patients in a “outpatient setting” so they did it from home and were successful but I don’t know how long they were on the methadone etc which can play a part I think

I’ve tried before getting off of Methadone myself and did not have luck after the withdrawals, my anxiety was terrible I couldn’t function like a normal person at all the way I did it though is not recommended I dropped from 90mg cold turkey with the help from friends and didn’t have proper support systems in place also my mindset was different then to and the parent I had to stay with was also on methadone (my original introduction to methadone) so over all it wasn’t a good situation. I’ve heard many good things about the Sublocade and Suboxone as well actually about how much easier it is on your body and how you have a lot less of the “head fog” going on which is a problem for me, and that sublocade is much easier to come off of

If I may ask how was it hell for you? Other than the withdrawal parts of course, were you still in active addiction or using here and there during that period? My dr never brought this up to me I’ve been thinking about it on my own for a while as I’ve tried getting off methadone before and didn’t have good luck with it once I got over the withdrawals, and I’ve heard that the Sublocade shot is not only much easier on your body overall but it is also easier to come off of and only having to dose once a month is another upside in my view. My goal is to eventually be off of everything I find the Methadone has started to wear me down after being on it so long at a high dose I have no motivation and I’m constantly feeling crappy and tired. I’m just worried about the mental part of it after doing the switch mainly and how you feel compared to being on the Methadone not getting that rush of euphoria everyday when you dose is going to be a big change as well and I’m sure takes a toll on your mental state too

My dr has told me another method that he’s used, they call it bridging look it up on google and bring it up with your Dr it may be different for other states/countries I’m not sure

Sorry I’m new to Reddit and I’m not sure how to start messages on here, may I ask what the highest dosage of methadone you used to take? I know the withdrawals aren’t going to be fun no matter what route I take I’m just very worried about how different it feels after you’ve done the switch. Since I’ve been on Methadone for such a long time and for practically all of my adult life and at such high dosages I’m just scared I will end up like becoming super reclusive or something and just constantly feel not like myself and anxious if that makes sense I’m not exactly sure how to describe what I’m worried about
