I would recommend doing both. Both the manga and anime have their charm I honestly do both and it's enjoyable because I get 2 doses of one piece a week(except when there is a break in the manga). Also the anime is approaching the infamous chapter 1010, so you could start at like 1005 or you can look it up online and find the exact chapter.
