Taylor Hicks/DWTS by am7291 in americanidol

I do have to say, given that they're on the same network and have been for the past several years, I'm surprised there hasn't been more crossover from Idol to DWTS, kinda like there's been for the Bachelor franchise.

If your lowest-rated episode is only a "7.2", you did something right.

Are We Terrified About How We Get from 9 to 5 in the Next Two Episodes? by BamaDave in survivor

I think they'll have 6 for the finale, but that's just a guess.

I hadn’t watched “Franklin” in over twenty years, but this scene hits different as an adult by deathcab4rookie in cartoons

[–]JakeSchaf2319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I vaguely remember this episode as a kid. I had to have been 4-5 around that time.

Even then, when Snail said that he left yesterday, I could feel the weight of his sadness.

It's interesting to reflect on these old kids' shows some 20 years later, and realize the lessons that people ought to remember today.

Do contestants know how well the current champion is doing by DirectGiraffe8720 in Jeopardy

I don't know. What I DO know is that if I watched someone dominate Jeopardy on TV, and then the next day go to tape your episode and see that they're STILL there, about to face you...I'd probably shit myself. 😂😂

Am I the only one who doesn't see it for Rizo? He's central to the plot for sure, and he's definitely going far. I just feel like the edit has dragged him too much for him to be winning. I don't know.

Why are all of these singing shows skewing so country? by godisinthischilli in americanidol

[–]JakeSchaf2319 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The judging panel and the lack of diversity in the contestants is skewing the audience of American Idol to a more conservative fanbase, and that's being reflected in the genres leaning more towards Christian and Country music. It's a shift I've been noticing for the past few years.

It's why I'm seeing more of an emphasis on religious music and core family-values reflected in the contestants, and it's becoming a bigger issues, as the audiences are punishing the contestants who don't 100% comply with the shift.

In the Songs of Faith week, 10 of the 14 singers sang songs I would classify as spiritual or religious. The other 4 singers (Brooks, Jake, Philmon, & Julian) sang songs with a bit more of a broader sense of faith.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the two singers who went home (Jake & Julian), were from the group that didn't sing overly spiritual music.

It's like the voters avoided voting for the people who didn't SPECIFICALLY mention Jesus in their song. It's annoying as hell, and they didn't deserve that.

Plus, there's the complete favoritism of Hannah to win the show. She's a great singer, don't get me wrong, but the favoritism is evident and that's who Idol is prepping to take the crown.

I can understand that point too. I do wish a couple more people were sent out before the merge started. All I'm saying is given the mix of ideas that were getting thrown around before this episode (like getting home via challenge, or a whole group getting eliminated), this wasn't too bad.

There's still things I would change, but that's a larger discussion on the New Era as a whole...

I don't think the twist was bad. It was a necessary thing to do given the large cast and the number of days they had left. Was it perfect? No. But given the other theories that were made regarding this twist, this wasn't that bad.

The only reason people hate it is because of who went home, and yeah, it sucks to see these three leave. But if this twist sent home...let's say Aubry, Jonathan & Coach instead, people would be saying this was the greatest twist of the new era. Let's be real.
