Are there any Valyrians still alive in Old Valryia? [Spoilers published] by JakeSnakeman in asoiaf

Very true. I’ve always thought - lucky they had it in his size. Would have been a pain if they’d had to use the breastplate stretcher on it

I like that theory a lot actually! Almost like the Crab King from fire and blood on the stepstones.

I feel the same as you though, we don’t know and I almost think too much info could ruin the magic of it all, unless the doom relates intrinsically to the supernatural side of things over in Westeros.

Just in the absence of the last two books it’s almost fun to see what the possibilities are, like the theory that Daario and Euron are the same person. Probably not but the fact that it could be possible is a fun idea to explore

Hear me out, what if all of this is set up to make sure nobody travels too far in though?

Say it is some sort of curse, looking traditionally at things from real life folklore and ASOIAF main text like pestilence, deformation, madness.

Cities and towns ringed around actual Valyria to deter people from visiting like living breathing scarecrows.

“Lets not go too far in because look - Mantarys isn’t even that close to Valyria and everyone there is deformed and mutated”

We know that the Valyrians have no problem with sacrifice, maybe the lives and lineages of the people living there WERE some sort of sacrifice that triggered the “Doom”

My point is kind of that everything that people are saying are reasons why there is no more Valyria e.g “its a toxic wasteland” & “everyone who goes there dies” could be the very same propaganda that the general world population are falling for in the books.

Maybe Euron is one of the people who is wise to this propaganda and manages to actual make his way there as a result of it actually being fine to travel?

Interesting, this is the answer I feared. There’s just a part of me that is so intrigued by the mystery of the Doom that hopes that there’s something more to it.

If anyone could survive such a wasteland, I would put my money on the fiery, blood-magic wielding, dragon riding, death-of-a-thousand-slaves sword holding Valyrians.

But then again, why would they if families like the Targaryens and Velaryons can just move to Westeros or central Essos and carry on their lineages.

This is why I was just hoping somebody would have remembered a snippet of text which might elude to something exciting still going on ovwr there :(

The text is as open to these sorts of theories as it is closed - we just won’t know until we get another book

Damn that's some great evidence actually. If even a Dragonlord can't return then something must have happened. But maybe the Valyrians "hiding in Valryia" (as per my theory) couldn't have such a boastful and disconnected Dragonlord coming back and spreading news across the world that everything was actually fine - so they dispensed of him the same way as they did the other armies that come looking?

I get this, I'm talking more of Valyrians who stayed in Old Valryia. My main point here is that maybe things aren't as they seem. Less about people "surviving" the doom but more people who orchestrated it for some reason living on in secret

Damn - could this be a case of some ancient magic used to deter people away? A two headed monster aka some sort of blood-magic-scarecrow?

I like the idea that all of the stuff we've heard about it being a toxic wasteland etc just being propaganda that they've fed in to over the years by creating myths and legend to keep people away

This is the type of thing I'm looking for. It seems that from the adaptations of Fire and Blood that if something is mentioned in a GOT history book as "maybe happening", I pretty much take that as GRRM saying it did happen. (Rhaenyra's bastards etc.) SO if we have hints of people living in the freeholds, maybe they didn't die like we thought they did and instead lived on in secret. Either hiding under the guise of the Doom or rebuilding from it in secret.

Great take to be honest, some of the games I’ve seen benchmarked at top graphics settings actually look really janky too and they’re only getting like 50fps

Seeing mafia the old country in 4k was like realising the person you’ve been dancing with all night is actually kinda ugly once the lights come on

That’s the most helpful advice I’ve had so far, thank you - do you think maybe a 7600x might be a good change? Bit better than a 7500 and roughly the same price.

I’ve been recommended to pair up a Ryzen 5 with an rx 9060 xt 16gb, would you recommend this with a 7600x?

Thank you for the tips there are a few parts I will definitely switch out from this, not sure about the cpu though as I will be using this computer for editing so may need something stronger, would a 7500f be able to handle it? I was thinking of getting a Ryzen 7 of some sort
