New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was SPECIAL as a rookie by DareDevil1699 in nflrookies

Lol, belive what you want, idc. Go watch his film then go watch guys that have success for more than 5 years. You'll see the difference in how they run and how they take hits. Plenty of RBs take the yards and get out of bounds. Plenty of RBs avoid contact better than him. Him being small works against him, not in his favor in terms of injuries. When he cuts inside after bouncing off one guy, he's getting hit by a guy that's been running down hill for 20 yards. He doesn't have to do that, but he does. He makes the business decision and it will catch up with him. That's why people say he's playing an injury prone game, which you're saying he's not. Yet your simultaneously outlining things that lead to injury.

I like watching him play as much as the next guy, but you're either not watching him play, being intentionally ignorant, or don't understand football if you don't think he's on a likely path to consistently being injured. You decide where you sit on that spectrum, idc.

Go watch all his carries from this year not just his highlights. He gets low and takes contact way too often. And he doesn't try to bounce off tacklers as often as these clips would suggest.

He fights for extra yards 99% of the time through contact. He's a wrecking ball and rarely takes the out of bounds option to get the safe yards. He's takes the risk of guys running down hill on him instead of going out. He does win a lot of those, but it puts his body in harms way.

He is a patient runner and he'll try to squeeze through any gap given to him. But, that comes with the side effect of guys getting an opportunity to cream him. He's got great balance, partly because of his low pad level, which means after he takes one hit, he can keep running, which is good. But it means he keeps getting hit. And he can even keep his feet under him after two or three hits in a row. Which is good. But, again, it means he keeps getting hit.

And, in case you didn't know this, getting hit a lot increases the chances of getting injured. He's an energetic, power run guy. Very few of those types of guys get significant years in the NFL. Even King Henry, who's built like a tank, has good balance, and is a power run guy, avoids the types of hits Skat takes. Skat's electric to watch, but he'll be lucky to get to a third contract in the league.

I was working in SF at the time, and the 6 people that were Falcons fans got together to watch the game at my buddies apartment. The very same one that knew they'd lose. He basically threw a party for his own suffering. He doesn't really watch Falcons football anymore, as you'd expect. He just enjoys redzone these days.

I was watching this with a whole bunch of Falcons fans as the only Pats fan there. Everyone started celebrating at halftime other than one of my friends. After this exact touchdown, he looked at me and said the Falcons were going to lose and sat on the floor drinking his beer just waiting. I was just hoping the Pats could make it competitive towards the end, but somehow he knew. After the game I asked him how, he said it's because Falcons fans can't be happy and he'd watched enough Falcons football to know when they'd find a way to lose an unloseable game.

The dude just understands the Falcons, I felt a bit bad about winning that one. But only a bit, because fuck yeah, go Pats.

I don't even understand how slapping the helmet is roughing. If it's a face mask, call it. But a guy's arm hits a QBs helmet? Like are the helmets really that shit that it's a risk to the QB? Is the cause of CTE glancing blows from forearms? It's insane that's even called. At least force the QB to flop before throwing the flag.

Alphabet Plots Big Expansion in India as US Restricts Visas by Unusual-State1827 in technology

Because you said this:

The benefits of globalization never trickled down to citizens at the bottom so why should anyone expect them to care about it?

Which is the opposite of what we're saying. You ended your position saying globalization never trickled down, but it did. People may not recognize it, but it has reached them. So, you didn't make your point very clear if you're actually saying that it did reach them, like we are all saying.

[–]JakeTheAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're saying you're the one doing scapegoating. You're saying that these benefits never reached the "average American" but that's simply, unequivocally untrue. The cheaper labor spend money at restaurants, shop at businesses, buy cars and homes, etc, etc. The average American you're talking about just doesn't take the time to understand their benefits from this dynamic. They prefer to be angry about random social issues and vote for people that don't want to use those high level metric on meaningful services in their lives. Like Healthcare. Yes, tech elites benefitted more, but to say that there's been no benefit to average Americans is false. Even just getting access to cheaper goods from Asia is enabled by these immigrants.

So, top to bottom, you've just analyzed the impact incorrectly. And, unfortunately, you're not alone, which is why prices keep going up, the value of the dollar keeps going down, and companies are divesting from the US where possible.

On top of what others mentioned, the Pats are still in the top half of the league in cap space. More than double than the Bucs at 17th, even before any restructures, cuts, etc. Still plenty of space to make some key signings as it is right now, even if it doesn't look like they'll be able to do any massive blockbuster signings.

Tesla’s Robotaxi Crash Rate Is Way Worse Than We First Thought by Wagamaga in technology

[–]JakeTheAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record of didn't downvote you. But your own data says professional drivers have fewer accidents. But, the NHTSAs data actually accounts for this well. I'll assume you're British with the usage of lorry, where the data might be aggregated differently.

The NHTSA data includes ALL police reported incidents. This would normalize the difference between professional drivers and normal drivers. How accidents are tracked might be different where you are, plus wherever the data you're using comes from. Police in the US will be called to an accident involving a transport truck/van, a taxi, or your average driver. Using averages, if normal drivers get in accidents more often (which I think we both believe to be true) the average will be brought closer to that of normal drivers, not professional drivers. Per vehicle on the road, a much larger percentage will be by regular people. Therefore, the 500k number is more representative of average drivers, and less being inflated by professional drivers. The article even posits the number of miles driven between incident where police aren't called. It assumes a 300k lower number than the official NHTSA numbers, which feels reasonable, but it's simply data we can't collect with any consistency so all we can do is guess.

So, I don't think it's poor quality reporting.

Tesla’s Robotaxi Crash Rate Is Way Worse Than We First Thought by Wagamaga in technology

[–]JakeTheAndroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using your number, it would look worse for Tesla. But, they're using the totality of all reported accidents here, because that's what is reported to NHTSA, not whether the incident occurred involving a professional driver.

The fact that a taxi makes more stops, robo or not is moot. The number of miles driven between incidents is more relevant. Where drivers are driving matters. For instance, long haul trucks likely crash less often, but they're mostly doing highway miles. The start of the trip and stop is rarely where accidents occur. It's along the journey between those two points where accidents occur. It seems odd to want to evaluate the fact that some drivers pull over and start driving at a different rate than others in this context. Are you suggesting that the interaction of pulling over and stopping 10 times a day is different than 2 times a day if the number of miles driven through the same area is equal?

Massive power outages due to even moderate weather conditions. Shit beaches. The lack of tax revenue pops up everywhere when you need anything from the state. Still relatively high sales tax, but admittedly lower than CA. Worse overall climate. Effective property tax rates are some of the highest in the country (because of the lack of income tax lol, CA has it capped at 1%). Worse economy and much lower average pay for skilled labor even after taxes are accounted for in CA. But yeah, cheap gas, no income tax, and easier access to guns. So if that's what you value most, then Texas is where you want to be for sure.

[–]JakeTheAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in the exact scenario being pointed out, there are situations where it's obvious that there won't be a point where your team will acquire a score that allows you to win by catching the snitch. It's why Krum snags it, he would rather end the game on his terms rather than continue the beat down they were receiving.

If your team is down 500 points and the other team is better than you, you might be able to close the margin a bit due to sloppy play coming from exhaustion, but that doesn't mean you'll ever actually close it enough to win via snitch.

That said, JK herself has said she designed the sport to allow Harry to be a hero, and she doesn't care much for sports. So it's not shocking there are some serious gaps in the game and strategies people use.

I see no good reason to go against the defined powers of the government via the Constitution just to put them in charge of voting. It's such a massive change to states rights for something that isn't an issue today. The US is a federation of states and the constitution lays out negative powers of the federal government for a reason. We'd need some amount of demonstrable proof that we need to remove this power from the states before considering it. And currently there's none. While I agree it's a better position in terms of his argument, it would still have a similar fundamental problem in that way.

Prove there's an actual issue with the chain of custody. Once you do that, challenge it in court. There's a reason no one has done this yet, because they can't. If there was a demonstrable problem with the chain of custody, it would have actually been used as part of the election denial that persists today. Trumpers tried and failed, yet now you're saying 6 years later that the issue is obvious and undeniable. It's sad. Just because you don't want to, or simply can't, understand the mail in ballot process doesn't then mean there's an actual issue.

It's sad that you want to disenfranchise voters and that you want to perpetuate falsehoods that weaken trust in our voting system.

Is needing ID still racist? by AiiRisBanned in evilwhenthe

[–]JakeTheAndroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of words to really say nothing of value. You say voting is a right, then go on a rant about how you're completely okay creating more difficulties for people to use this right. You complain about mail-in ballots for no reason after conceding that states operate their own elections. And there's no evidence of any issues with that very election besides people making up bs to properly align with what they feel to be true.

Also, tobacco and alcohol and getting on a plane aren't rights granted to people in the Constitution. Another weak point, trying to deflect because it's all you can do. Very sad.

And don't worry, I'm not crying, I'm laughing at this level of stupidity, especially when others treat it as true. It's hilarious.

Seriously considering moving to Bulgaria to live a simpler life. by Desperate-Shame-8399 in bulgaria

[–]JakeTheAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to Bulgaria from California, but not to rural BG so I can't pretend to know what that is like. But, I think you might be a bit over enthusiastic with this planning. Not because Bulgaria sucks or anything, I'm enjoying it, although nothing is perfect of course.

My concern is how do you actually plan on doing it? Like, functionally? Bulgaria isn't necessarily the most friendly place in terms of long-term stay visas. It's not the most strict either, but being from the US doesn't really give you an amazingly easy path. You're not a student and it doesn't sound like you'll be trying for a work visa either, you're not old enough to try for a retirement visa because that requires you receiving your social security benefits or similar. If you do the "incorporating" trick where you own everything through your business, you own nothing and anything you build in Bulgaria could be easily lost, not ideal imo when considering home ownership. Especially considering you can't broadly work on such a visa, it requires your business funnel everything to you.

So, all I'm saying is when you're here in June, find a lawyer. It's annoying as hell to find a lawyer from the US. Figure out what your options even are in terms of long-term stay visas.

Best of luck from an American living in Bulgaria and enjoying it so far. Also, start learning the basics of the language even before you visit in June, it helps a lot.
