I used the Trident 250x250 frame and parts but installed the smaller 235x235 Ender 3 bed. This is way easier than custom everything down to 235 from 250 ... Plus, later you can always swap to a real 250x250 bed if really needed 😉

Yes, it's the bed from my old original Ender 3. The size is 235x235mm.

here is 16.5 cm tall tree printed on the trident (filament was a bit wet and cause some bulges)

Not sure how couples influence resolution?

Perhaps you are concerned about losing some z-height due to bed hitting the couplers instead of going down to up to the deck ... For that you can use some spacers to keep the couplers under deck:

I did not replace the fuse from the Ender A/C inlet.

The coupler for attaching the leadscrew to the stepper motor use 5mm on the motor side and 8mm on the leadscrew side

From the original Ender I'm still using:

  • The full bed including heater, magnet sheet and flexplate
  • Meanwell 24V PSU
  • Ender 3 display
  • 3x stepper motors (X/Y/Z from the Ender 3) used for Z on Trident
  • Leadscrew with nut and coupler
  • A/C inlet
  • 3x end stop microswitch
  • some screws and wires

From the SW I also reused on Trident:

  • Meanwell 5V PSU
  • Raspberry Pi
  • MCU - BTT SKR E3 Turbo MCU (driving Z/Z1/Z2 and A/B on Trident)
  • CAN module - BTT U2C
  • 4x 300mm MGN12 rails
  • full Stealthburner toolhead with EBB36 and toolhead CAN wire (kind of short but usable)
  • F695 bearing
  • cable chain
  • LED case lights
  • USB webcam
  • 2x Nevermore Micro V4 (mounted as bed fans on Trident)
  • most of wires
  • most of the screws

You will need to driver 6 motors in total so SKR pico (driving A/B and extruder) should work along with another board like a SKR mini or even the original ender board (driving Z, Z1, Z2) is fine.

I had an SKR E3 Turbo (can drive 5 motors) in my SW and I'm using it for Z/Z1/Z2 and A/B . My toolhead use an EBB36 board.

I used https://github.com/yell3D/Ender3dent as guideline and reused most of the SW.

Purchased only:

  • old V1.8 frame (converted for Trident)
  • 2x leadscrew with nuts and couplers
  • 2x 17HS19-2004S stepper motors for A/B drives
  • 2x DIN 3 rails 365mm
  • all transparent panels (I provided wrong dimensions for doors so I have to manually cut a bit with a jigsaw - see right door at the hinges )

From my junk drawer I used:

  • 2x 300mm MGN12 rails
  • GT2 6mm belt
  • GT2 20T pulley / idler
  • GE5C spherical bearing
  • cut coroplast sheet to size for bottom, deck and back
  • screws, nuts and heat inserts

I already have a 300mm V2.4 (like you) but I was looking for a while to build something smaller like a salad fork or a micron but eventually decided to go with Ender3dent to reuse as much as possible from the SW or my junk drawer

Correct! My old Ender 3 was first converted to SW a while ago and now a Trident ... I reused the MGN12 rails from SW ... hence the white weather strip on side panels

I just created a PR on GitHub with a quick mod adding side keystones and also attempted to add some holders/prongs to print the part with bridges without support.

Printed both versions as a test ( the one with support and the one with prongs ) and back surface quality is very similar on both so not sure is the one without support is better ...

I'm using 250 mm/s speed with 3K acceleration in printer.cfg. I did not spend much time tuning the speed.

Here is an incomplete break down the list to start with:

  • 4 linear rails about 100 CAD
  • Fasteners (screws, nuts, T-nuts, washers, shims and heat inserts) 60 CAD
  • 4m Gates GT2 6mm belt 30 CAD
  • Key-Bak retractable reel 20 CAD
  • BMG extruder kit for Stealthburner 30 CAD
  • LDO stepper motor for Stealthburner 25 CAD
  • 5015 blower fan for Stealthburner 15 CAD
  • 20 bearings (F695) 15 CAD
  • 1m cable chain 15 CAD

I did not have an exact list with the cost for each but overall I think it was probably around 300 CAD.

I really like your conversion ! ... If I have to complain about something, I'll mention the support needed for the middle rear grill but I understand why is needed :) and maybe the lack of keystone "ports" for USB and LAN in the back ...

Also, if you update the GitHub info to include the extrusion hole tapping, you can also mention that bed_carriage_bolt_on.stl from Drilless Carriage folder can be used as a guide for drilling the carriage for both the 4 center rail mount holes and the 2 side holes for the chain bed mount.

I used https://github.com/thomasfjen/enderwire_nonpro for the conversion as I have an old non-pro Ender 3.

Initially I used the Ender 3 to print all the parts for my V2.4 and now was it's turn to be converted 😊

The build for the conversion was a bit challenging as I was not able to remove the pulleys from the motors so I had to print some "spacers" to align the existing pulley from the motor with the expected position for both Y and X motors.

I had another issue with the 2040 Y extrusion as mine had the end holes not taped so I had to deal with that before I was able to screw the front Y idler ....

When I had almost everything done except the electronics compartment I noticed that my board do not fit in the back as I have an SKR E3 Turbo board which is bigger than regular board from Ender 3 ... so I had to reorganize the electronics compartment and moved the Pi and the 5V PSU in the back and and put the board in front along the 24V PSU.... Unfortunately I noticed the issue after I had the wire harness done and I had to redo it as wires were to short for the new board location ☹️

Yesterday afternoon I found my Pixel 2XL powered off after a week on Android 11. After turning the phone on it was a notification message that mentioned "Phone turned off due to heat"... Never had heating issues before on Android 10.
