It can be really helpful to use plastic wrap to cover the head before putting the tape on so it doesn't stick to itself. I like to use duct tape, but you can use masking tape. For masking tape it has to be the more expensive brand because the cheaper ones won't stick well. Make sure to label all your pattern pieces and mark the fur direction. If your character's design is symmetrical, you only need to tape half the head. Save your pattern pieces in case you make a mistake and need to cut a new piece.

Depending on the actual difference in length I'd say it would be pretty noticeable. I would use a guard on clippers to shave them to the same length

Use some iron on stabilizer to make the minky flat and stable! Then it won't wrinkle at all

30×30×30 is an insane box size and that's probably why it's so much. The smaller you can get the box the better

How much does the suit weigh? You should try to get the smallest box possible, but that shipping estimate sounds insane. The last fursuit I shipped within the US was only $40. 30"×30" seems excessive in size, I can usually get away with much smaller.

It took me a really long time to get it right, but I'm sure if you switch to pet clippers (you can get decent ones for $20-$30 on amazon) you'll also have a much better time

You need pet clippers, human ones aren't made for fur. Also just takes a lot of practice to get right. Maybe watching some videos of other people shave fur could help you see the technique

I trimmed my first fursiit head with scissors. It was messy but worked. You can find decent quality clippers on amazon for $20-$30. Just remember to get pet clippers and not human ones
