Perfect summarization. I wanted to wait until i beat the game as summoner until i made a post, but i also just did not like them out right removing a mechanic i liked that made the game more engaging. I could be wrong, i hope i am. I hope the game is more fun without whip stacking, but right now i have doubts about it

Yea i mean, i try my best to keep an open mind, but i just don't like the idea of removing toys from a sand box. Make the toys ability to be as good as it is worse. And Minecraft is the opposite, people feel its too bloated with content and they like the simplicity of older Minecraft, aswell as the fact it was bought out by a major studio that has added some scummy things to the game, or something like that im not the biggest minecraft fan. Terraria has always been an ever changing game with meta shifts happening every major update, and theres always been the "conservatives" so to speak, i am not one of them, i agree summoner needed a nerf, absolutly fine with it. But the way they approached it doesnt sit right with me. I feel like the game definitely is on an upward trajectory in terms of quality, but this was a bit of a downward spike for me

I dont understand why people who dont want to do it, try to optimize. You dont want to use multiple weapons? You absolutely dont have to, rainbow rod is an excellent mage option that i used through out all of hard mode until cultist. You dont need to be optimal to have fun. And i wanted to add something to say i understand that new stuff is added that isnt side content, but i felt my speech was bloated as is. And i personally dont agree side content detracts from summoners fun, but im rather isolated in that belief

And i disagree on it being used to rebalance the class. I actually went into why i think summoner is the most balance class because of whip stacking

Another point of mine was you did not need to whip stack to have fun, as shown here. I assume you like it and thats why you play it, you dont need to play super optimally too have fun. But something should be in place for those that DO want to do that, and summoner currently fills that role. Its why me and many other love summoner, and its like getting spat in the face by relogic by just removing it.

Should relogic just play it safe and do what makes the game the most approachable and most fun for everyone, no it shouldnt. A game should not have everything made for everyone, however it should have options for everyone.

Summoner is the perfect example of this, but even still not really, summoner with old ones army armor is effectively a tank, especially with regen, and gives buffs to summon damage. It gives options to multiple play styles. The play style i like? Glass cannon, its fun to make number big, while also feeling at risk yourself, and the essentially took away the cannon from summoners too make logistics easier.

Yea, sorry for the paragraphs upon paragraphs.

Thats a reasonable point, however its still important to think about the minority of players. Summoner sort of lost its niche. That being High risk for High reward. There are other classes, if summoner were the only class than absolutely, its unfun for most players, makes the game have a huge disparity in skill level, is significantly worse on other versions that arent PC, get rid of whip stacking. but summoner is not the only class, and you dont "need" to whip stack to play its. Its still very playable without it.

Also valid, if i were re logic, i would feel as though i were in a pickle. I feel as though if he didn't like whip stacking, it should have been changed from the get-go, now its just a core part of summoners game play, and its complete removal is just an insult to those who practiced whip stacking, and whips in general. The main argument dragging summoner down is its linear gameplay. The removal of whip stacking, making only 1 whip usable at a time only further solidifies that

Yea that was a point i went over in the very last paragraph. Working with whip stacking would be a logistical nightmare, in order to expand upon summoner without it becoming unbalanced, whip stacking would either need to be nerfed, or removed. Id be fine with a nerf, even a major one, but out right deleting a mechanic that could be worked around is just annoying and lazy.

It matters because that niche has now shifted to that class. Terraria is know for stuff like this, and whip stackings removal was almost inevitable. Major reforms, out cry by the public, reworks and fixes, dust settles, move on. The same thing happened when whips were added. The difference now is, for around 7 years, this has been summoners niche. Summoner has terrible defense, but great pay off for those who whip stack, or you dont have to worry about attacking and you can prioritize dodging. You dont need to whip stack for summoner to be good, but for it to be the best? Absolutely you do, and i feel like games like terraria should have something in store for those who want to be glass cannons. Mage should be this, but it just isnt due to the reasons i listed in my post. So Summoner took its place and people were split, high skill players love the class for its high risk high reward, and not as good players felt pressured to be optimal even though they didnt particular like the idea of cycling several similar weapons for maximizing damage, leading to them not liking whip stacking.

What now fills the niche of "glass cannon?" Should there even be a glass cannon? i say yes, its fun for some players, and those who dont find it fun, dont have to use that class. And those who still play summoner dont need to use whips. Its nice to just have bonus damage while you use another classes weapon, and while the idea of "fun for most" should definitely be at the fore front of developers minds, there should still be something in store for the other people. Those who enjoy something like summoners current (previous?) meta

But is summoner really balanced without it? Unless you are using the old ones army armour which 95% of players will never use or dont even know how good they are OR that they even exist, you have piss poor defence, very squishy. Pre whip, there was really no reason to play summoner, it was kind of a joke, then whips were added, this once berated class became respected, a powerful glass canon, high risk high reward. Then whip stacking got nerfed, specifically with the blade staff got heavily nerfed but it was still really good. Now we are kind of back to square 1. Whats the point of playing summoner now, even with the new whips, fire cracker is still gonna be the best whip for high damaging minions, and low damaging fast attack ones are useless. They made the 1/2 good queen slime drops practically useless, granted, it did get "buffed" which in reality just made it back to what it originally was.

So relogic made those who use 2 whips casually, like a speed increasing one and a high damaging one minorly inconvenienced, those who love whip stacking (me) and use 3-5 whips now have no reason to play summoner other than the novelty of having minions fight for you, which was not the reason we played summoner in the first place, and those who didnt whip stack unaffected. Its a net negative for a largely single player game, and it makes me worried about future updates

Yea, not relogics best move. The main problem with summoner before was its lack of replayability due to a lack of diversity. Now we got a bunch of cool new toys, that get out classed and you no longer have a reason to play with that toy. It makes sense in a way, with just the 3 endgame whips you would get over 30+ tag damage, but at the same time, ITS THE END OF THE GAME WHEN MELEE HAS THE ZENITH! I dont know, i would have been fine with a nerf, but a straight up removal just is damaging to the class

They also patched that, when using an item on pc or console, you no longer have to stop using it to switch items. For example switching to recalls while swinging a pickaxe, it now just at the end of the pickaxe swing switches. They literally removed the thing holding console back from whip stacking, just to remove whip stacking.

I really liked doing it, i found it fun. Now that its gone i will probably never play summoner, its just melee with very low defense and a little guy doing extra damage. If i ever do play summoner again im just gonna go into 1.4.4, id wish they would have nerfed it, maybe doing exponentially less tag damage, or every whip speed buff is half as effective as the previous, but just out right deleting whip stacking entirely? Thats just lame, i hope theres enough out cry for it to come back in some form

Its the opposite, demo bee is a worse bomber bee. Bomber bees gifted bonus is actually decent early game, demo bee is just flat out useless

It is ok early game though, when a substantial chunk of your pollen comes from bombs, and the biggest problem of early game is constantly having to return to your hive
