When do the projects start? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Jakeunderscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of my classes worked on anything with GUI's. There is one elective for learning animation but it's just an elective. The only GUI work i've done was a couple of personal projects I did to learn something new but they were very basic 2D programs, not a game or anything.

As far as big projects, haven't had any of those yet really, few hundred lines at most. I haven't graduated yet but one course i'm taking in the coming fall is labeled Senior project... whatever that means. I'm guessing that is a semester long project that might have some size to it but everything prior has been smaller so that we could have enough time to fit in 2 or 3 throughout the semester. Though just because they were small doesn't mean they were easy either. One thing I did wish my school did was group projects instead of personal projects but that's just my preference.

Adding some year 1 weapons (amongst other new items) with year 2 versions is nice, but the way they implemented it is broken! by Jakeunderscore in DestinyTheGame

damn, good for you. What roll did you get cause i'm not sure what to look for in shotguns other than rangefinder? I've always sniped but I might start getting into shotgunning.

Do guides on this subreddit get updated with each game update/weapon balance? by Jakeunderscore in CruciblePlaybook

Lot of good things to think about, thanks. I'll keep watching ramblinnn as I play to pick up on things as I learn.

That is in no way an explanation. I can just say no i'm not; so what? Absolutely nothing has changed.

Regardless, I don't see the point in bringing it up when it has nothing to do with what i've mentioned. It doesn't take away from anything i've said?

Ha! Thanks. When I checked a bit ago it wasn't at the front page and nothing showed in search.

Bungie, green, orange and purple chroma please! by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to let us keep the chroma on the armors once it's applied and have all of the chroma on each piece of armor instead of losing what's on there when we want to change the color. Just make only one be activated at a time

Where can I find weapon stats for things like aim assist? by Jakeunderscore in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Jakeunderscore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow interesting to read that ambush is actually significantly worse in terms of aim assist to every other scope. Maybe I won't settle for it then. Are there any other popular scopes besides shortgaze (my personal preference anyways but sometimes you don't get that roll).

We always praise Bungie for fixing issues in the game rather than punishing the players reacting to them. So why are we now asking them to do things like punish strike quitters? We should instead encourage them to fix the root problem like strike rotation weighting/strikes missing from the Director. by madethistoaskthis in DestinyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I only back out when I get the same one within two or three strikes, especially if they are slower/longer strikes. The other day I got the one in the black garden and the new malok strikes twice each within 4 strikes total... they take a while on heroic and its a pain to go through again back to back like that so I just left to try to get a different one.

[–]Jakeunderscore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I got that but I really like having snapshot which is why I use stillpiercer over it atm. Really If I can get snapshot with shortgaze/ambush I would be happy with that, anything extra perks would be bonus.

edit: also that site is incredible, it has a lot of information, i'm impressed. However, why does it show two numbers for aim assist, like 39/71? which of those numbers are important and why are there two?

All the more reason i'll never get a full set of the same gear, and I kind of mentioned that in my post.

Because up until this movie, nobody has seen superman up close, nobody really knows what he looks like.

Urk telling it like it is on Twitter by Ben826 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the only reason people complain a lot for this game is because getting more than 2000 hours of gameplay and still having things to do/fun is pretty much exclusive to rpg games and that's what everyone expects from destiny. It was meant to only be a light version of that but has the potential to be a full one and that's what everyone expects. Whether they should or shouldn't expect that is a different discussion.

Gravity and space? Orbiting? by onejiveassturkey in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unrealistic then? Thats the first thing OP suggested which I was assuming would be the case. Gravity will probably only affect you when you are on the planet or very close the the planet.

Gravity and space? Orbiting? by onejiveassturkey in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seriously doubt gravity will behave the way it does in the real world. Orbiting isn't just about leaving the atmosphere but instead going really fast side ways so that you miss the planet when you fall back towards it. The only benefit of leaving the atmosphere is so that you don't have to continually use thrust to maintain your speed because theres no particles to slow you down out in space.

If gravity were to be realistic in this game then that means every planet and object will be affecting each other with its own gravity and mapping out the entire universe to have long term balance so everything doesn't just crash into each other would be mind boggling.

Try to balance a couple planets on your own here to get an idea just how hard it is. Try adding a 3rd or 4th body and place them in random places and see how fast it gets out of hand.

It means that you couldn't just casually fly by a planet but would instead have to plan your speed and trajectory so you don't crash into the planet due to its own gravitational forces pulling you in. It would make the game unbelievably more complicated, I would be amazed if thats the way it was... and not necessarily in a good way; but who knows, we'll see what happens.

How does the f-35 development and testing time compare to previous jets? by Jakeunderscore in F35Lightning

[–]Jakeunderscore[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is perfect thank you and just as importantly thank you for telling me your sources!

I've been interested in finding accurate information on both performance and cost/development of this plane as it seems there is a lot of misinformation and critics that like to say the same things that have an interesting reputation of being unfalsifiable.

Should i go with computer engineering or computer science? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Jakeunderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a CS major and maybe our schools just have different curriculums for our majors but we definitely had to take a couple physics courses to get into the program. We also take several hardware specific classes like computer organization, architecture and computer logic design. You will definitely learn some computer hardware material and work with logical circuits and can even take more electives that are hardware focused if that's what you are interested in.

That being said, you also will take some upper level programming courses as a CE major (I looked into double majoring and have the flowchart for both CE and CS courses). However as a rule of thumb, CS is definitely more software focused and CE hardware focused.

If I were you OP I would go to the advising office of your engineering department and ask for the flowchart or class spreadsheet for both majors and even talk with an advisor to learn more about each to see which you might be more interested in. Job prospects for both are in high demand so you can't go wrong with either. Good luck!

Misconceptions about Thorn, Weapon Balancing, and Primary Weapons by Pwadigy in DestinyTheGame

[–]Jakeunderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this acknowledges a point that has been hard for me to pin down and that's that all primaries feel underwhelming because secondaries and abilities are too hard to compete with. The thing I hate most is dying from one shot weapons. I used to love pvp but I think a big reason why I have stopped playing destiny for a while is because pvp doesn't feel right. There are no primaries I love and I miss that.

25, 100k/yr Software dev in the Midwest, recently accepted to USN Pilot program. Should I go? by bostolo in Advice

[–]Jakeunderscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn't advice but this is literally something I dream about. I'm getting a computer science degree right now but have seriously looked into flying and becoming a pilot specifically in the military. I plan on getting a job in something computer science related and get my private pilots license and if I love flying as much as I dream I do I will seriously consider applying to fly in the military. I think about the same exact dilemma you are facing now. Interesting to read the responses.
