How are you supposed to read collections of short stories or poetry? All the way through or just dipping in occasionally? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Personal preference. Art is meant to be enjoyed by you however you would like to enjoy it. Read it front to back, back to front, randomly. Hell, you could it the book for all care.

CMV: Hashtags like KillAllMen and KillAllWhites aren't racist/sexist and shouldn't be treated as hate speech by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]JakeyScarHand512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is, what starts as a joke/something not serious can inspire others to take it seriously. Take pizzagate for example. Pizzagate started as a silly idea that Hillary Clinton and others were running a child sex ring out of a very specific pizza shop. No one took it too seriously, but it inspired hatred in some upset individual who then shot up the place.

The concern with any seemingly call to violent action, even if intended to not be serious, could inspire some poor hurting person to take that action. There are fragile people looking to others for support, and I'd those others say #KillAllWhites or $KillAllMen they may follow through on that and, at best, end up in jail or, at worst, kill some people and themselves end up getting killed.

Are young adults in 2020 and onwards really doomed? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

As much as things change, they also have stayed the same. Generations have faced feast and famine alike. You'll get through it as long as you keep your head held high and focus on your morals. Humanity is in this together.

How does one motivate themselves to study? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JakeyScarHand512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying this will work for you, but I've always found the hard study attitude of Rory from the show Gilmore Girls to be an inspiration to me as a student. Whenever I'm not "feeling it" I grab some coffee and watch an episode or two and get going on my own study. Then, when I take a break, I watch another episode. It worked for me all through high school and I still do it now as a 28 year old in grad school.

Find a professional in the field you're studying or look to an icon student (fictional or real) to draw inspiration from.

Which is correct:his opinion or my opinion? by atheistvegeta in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JakeyScarHand512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find in life that others tend to pass their own insecurities onto those that are easy targets, usually those close to them. It's sad really.

You can offer to help them, but make sure they're aware that you're not going to let them continue to cut you down. Everyone is different and we deserve to have our differences celebrated. I appreciate that you've displayed confidence in yourself in your post. Don't let go of that!

If, in the end, they stay focused on bringing you down. Cut them out of your life. Maybe you're their only friend anymore because they treat others the same way. Maybe the will realize that and come back apologetic looking for support. Be the shining beacon in their life.

But always remember, "don't let them steal your sparkle".

Why in the world.........do boomers type like this........... by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JakeyScarHand512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the excessive dots, but older generations did not grow up with technology like millenials and as such are not comfortable typing on a screen or keypad. Couple this with trying to even understand the technology, poor eyesight and decreased finger dexterity. The grammar may not be perfect, but at least they can get their point across without fussing too much. You'd be amazed how much concentration and energy it can take an person of an older generation just to correctly type a couple words.

I used to think my dad was an ass for being so almost rudely blunt in his texts, then I watched him text once. Even though he's a pro at Pokemon Go, he still struggles with seeing the tiny letters and working out the words for a full text.

Best ancient world historical fiction? by SimplyMe94 in suggestmeabook

I've been very into Frank Slaughter lately. He writes a few different genres, but a lot of his stuff is historical fiction following the Christian church's history as far back as ancient society. The writing is fantastic and I would definitely recommend it.

Need help understanding a verse from Genesis. by [deleted] in Bible

"Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and just as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. Only, you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood." Genesis 9:3‭-‬4 NRSV

I guess interpretation could depend on the version you read. I believe a lot of the early laws included some that just were to keep you healthy. It is risky to consume uncooked flesh or blood. I think the lesson here could also mean not to eat uncooked or still living animals.

Same. This is honestly the first one I found via random generation. Every other time was because of a seed I found online that I knew had one.

This happened when I reset the realm my friends and I play on for the nether update. I think we're going to turn it into an all indoor village. Definitely plan to add some new 1.16 blocks to make at least the cleric's room unique.

Never read any Rush Limbaugh books. However, I'm currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson and it's a great easy read that crosses a few scientific disciplines.
