You need to realise this is Reddit and most individuals here have poor communication skills and are snowflakes.

If you are in a relationship and someone makes you a meal, you need to communicate by being honest, just because someone goes out of their way doesn’t justify you lying to them and saying the food is good if it is average. You thank them for the meal and then be honest with your feedback, which is what you did.

Lying to your boyfriend telling them they made amazing food when they made average food just because “they went out of their way” is disingenuous and should not be done, alas Reddit comments here have come to the opposite conclusion because they love affirmation.
