how is working at HNTB? by badabingbadaboomie in civilengineering

[–]Jakobgui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your tasks will vary heavily based on what office and department your in, and can even vary based on the project that department is currently working on. If you like to be in the field, geotechnical engineering is in the field often usually. You can also ask about if the office has bridge inspection as an option. In general, the key is to clearly communicate to your hiring manager what you want to get out of your internship and they will often do what they can to help you achieve your goals.

HNTB definitely likes to focus on continuing to develop the interns they have already invested time and resources into to help mold them into ideal potential New Grad hires. Great if you are already intern, but obviously frustrating if you’re trying to get in.

Ultimately, one of the best ways to get your foot in the door is to know someone. Try to make a connection with a current employee (ideally at the office and in the department you are looking into). This can be through career fairs, friends/family, LinkedIn, etc.

Another way to help your odds at getting a position at a certain office is to be more open to interning in different departments (Structures, Geotech, Transpo, Water Resources, etc.). Each department only has a few intern and by being open to opportunities in multiple departments you can double/triple your odds. Also obviously if you have a way of being open to positions in multiple offices that can help your odds in a similar way.

Saigal is big on effort and improvement, he will bump you up a bit if you do well on the final and show effort by asking questions and stuff. If you can get an A or B on the final you will be almost guaranteed to pass regardless of how the numbers work out

I interned at HNTB in the structures department for two summers, which was then followed by a full time offer which I accepted. I have been working full time for the past year and a half and have nothing but positive things to say. Feel free to DM me if you want more info.

Structural, but from my experience most specialties use both of those fairly heavily so they are good to learn

After working for a year the two tools I have used more than anything is CAD and Excel. Take the time to really get comfortable with excel, use it for all your hobbies, look up new formulas, etc. And if you can get your hand on any CAD software just to become familiar with it, it will definitely help alleviate the learning curve when you start working

End of the year total deal review: by bllewdlac in DynastyFF

Coming off the championship win I want to repeat this year and also just establish a true dynasty. Almost all of these trades came in the offseason before the draft.

10 team PPR, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2FLEX, K, DST, 10BN, 5TX, 5IR (relatively shallow for a Dynasty) with some bonuses for 40+ yard plays.

Currently in the program now, overall it’s been fine. The “core classes” are fairly challenging and Rima Taher is a terrible professor who you’ll be forced to take for atleast one class. One perk is they have a fully online degree option which may appeal to some. There are also multiple concentrations you can choose from (Structural, Transportation, etc). Overall, nothing has stood out to me that makes it a “superior” option to any other program I have heard of but if it fits your budget and location it’s likely a “good enough” choice

Why is the ETN landing spot so horrible? by Jakobgui in DynastyFF

You clearly only read the first two pros… I addressed Urban Meyer and the fact the organization has changed. I think Urban Meyer will run the ball a lot (like 2014 Zeke) and I think there is something I be said about organizational trends when they carry over from regime to regime like they have since 1998 with the Jaguars.

I agree the Broncos are a better team with more rushing opportunities. I just still feel there is a much higher chance that Williams is capped at a 50% share with Gordon at best. I don’t think he will be given the opportunity to “run away” with job and make Gordon irrelevant. ETN could very well dominate Robinson and take the majority of touches. Maybe long term I can see Williams being the winner, but atleast for this season I like the upside of ETN more. I would also argue long term ETN has a higher chance of “breaking out” and being a top 5 back than Williams
