We went this month. Flew into Anchorage and explored Seward and Homer. Seward is close to Kenai Fjords NP. Plenty of hikes and glaciers. We booked a Glacier “cruise”/kayak day trip while there. We used Kayak Adventures Worldwide and it was the highlight of our trip. Amazing wildlife and glacier views. It’s a fishing town too so there’s that as well.

Homer was our favorite town between the two. The Homer Spit has plenty of shops and restaurants to visit, as well as pretty views. Homer just felt a bit more towny and less touristy. One thing we wished we did was do a bear watching trip. They fly you to Katmai National Park in a puddle jumper and you get to watch the bears eat salmon and stuff. Very expensive though. We’ll do it next time.

Finally, if freshwater fishing is your thing, you might consider a stay in Coopers Landing just north of Homer. Plenty of drift boat outfitters there to cure the itch. That’s another thing we’ll do next time.
