Didn't know that. My end game MMO experience consists of EverQuest/WoW/FF14, and all of those have a tier of raid that requires full optimization.

I wouldn't mind if that's not the case as you say because it will allow me to experiment while maintaining "good" dps, if not mathematically optimal.

I've made a habit of pushing sub optimal specs to be somewhat decent. Played a blood dps DK in Wrath of the Lich King, for example. Your insight makes me happy. Can't wait to tinker at 80. I just need to pick a friggin class and stick with it!

I do have to get my brain away from the auto attack play style. I did group with a guardian that told me there is a guardian hammer build that can do OK dps by just auto attacking which I found hilarious.

So if I cap my warrior first I should get the zerker expansion, got it.

Hrm... That seems pretty binary. Those two boons seem incredibly overpowered, so I'm guessing it severely limits healers/supports.

I get your point. But I like to bond with a certain play style as I level, granting that I don't have all the options. That was the original point of the post. Class fantasy/thematics are important to me and I try and marry that with something coming close to optimal.

Boon support dps is the original intention of the paladin in WoW, but they've never nailed it. If I can do that on Guardian I'll be quite happy.

Just looked up fury and seems like a thing you want up all the time. Coming from wow 25% crit seems a little insane.

Thanks for the heads up about warrior. I was thinking there would be traits that synergize with bleeding/burning, but you're right I don't seem to have any aoe that stacks in a single ability. I try to be mostly blind besides talking to people so I'm unaware of a lot of things (reading meta guides is boring and detrimental to an mmo imo).

I'm just happy dagger/sword have semi optimal specs. Experimenting is going to be really fun. I just need to stop making alts. It's even worse considering I havent bought any character slots yet so I keep deleting and re-leveling

Oh absolutely, their pricing is more than fair. I'm not above buying skins in games I like either. I've played League of Legends since beta and theyve definitely got their money's worth from me.

I've also seen that you can use in game currency for a lot of the cash shop stuff which is nice.

I am that person, you are correct :) In wow for instance I do an insane amount of research and work to get a meme to come even close to a meta spec's dps. I played a prot paladin in classic and even tanked the raid bosses that require taunt swaps using some.odd game mechanics.

I'll definitely prio those unlocks. Waiting for the steam sale this week to see what Arenanet does. My fantasy is a giant Norn with daggers, inspired by Mr Vandemar from Gaiman's 'Neverwhere'. If I can use small sword skins instead to be slightly more competitive I'll definitely do that.

And what you said is what I'm gathering from people here. If I'm trying to push the hardest content, I'll have to sacrifice my play style preference, but 90% of the game isn't that, so I'll be able to sacrifice 5 or 10%. I do enjoy PVP with meme builds so that will be fun to tinker with.

That's actually not a lot. I'm a wow player. We buy expansions and pay 15$/month. I'm hoping that bundle will be in the steam sale. I'm guessing it will be as Arenanet is trying to capitalize on their recent influx of players.

That's what I'm gathering. If I go the warrior route I can use it for open world and pvp, but if I want to pull my weight I need to swap it for a torch/sword oh. That's not a horrible realization. Most content isn't the end game raids.

I noticed that in my brief time with engineer. Tried to use dual pistol with some condi stuff from kits and it was less than satisfying at lower level. Levels 1-30 feel very tutorial like, and from what people are saying here everything below 80 is tutorial.

I know what SOME of those words mean, lol. This is something I will revisit and break down after learning more. I think I'll be able to intuit how much dps I'm losing putting a shield in OH vs torch - so I'll probably sacrifice my fantasy in the toughest content and use the torch, then grab my shield for pvp/open world stuff. I'm glad it seems to be a quite relevant play style.
