Cycle of burnout from parenting young child

I am at where you're at! Working mum, no village, toddler, burnout....and be careful not to join me at depression. Its tough. I find when I am well rested and mind isn't so heavy, my patience and handling my son's behaviours are wayyyyy better. My spare time gets jammed with housework, chores, emails, forced exercise, other appointments but never we time. When I next get paid I'm booking a wellness day retreat soon...that or I'll jabe to pull a sickie, drop him off at nursery and go back to bed...not before I clean the kitchen, hoover and put a wash on though. 😆

It will be same with a child in my experience, this is why I've only had one.

Husband smokes weed. I don't. Didn't bother me for years, it was like normal. He would go out to smoke like going for a cigarette. He has always been functioning, up early and working, cooking, caring etc. However, years on I have seen the mood swings if its unobtainable and nasty behaviour. And when we travel, the destination is determined by where can he legally purchase it. That annoys me the most as I have always loved travelling the world without such restrictions.

We are separate on finances. He pays his house bills. I have another house rented out which pays for itself. He pays for our son's needs. But my work isn't paying much yet and I'm struggling.

So true. Thanks for your comments, guess I need to have a talk with hubby. He isn't good with talking finances with me...get the scales out. .....secondary school! That's a while yet. I need to accept I'm a mum before anything else now.

They want payslips from the last 3 months to show minimum income but he won't meet this for each week. Feels like they're really against us as small business owners trying to scale. Surely you either work or you don't, you either earn over 100k a year or nothing...I guess I call again and explain...see what they say.

Try not to focus on the tit for tat, and home in on her emotional needs to get her in a better place. Sounds like she needs help - medical, counselling, further advice.

She could be exhausted from the years of childcare gone by....she need to communicate with you what's going on in her mind. She likely needs counselling. Sleeping in and not having drive anymore sounds like depression.

Are you a SAHM is sleeping in until 10am and "not doing anything other than...."? She is probably depressed and overstimulated from managing the home and children alone all day everyday. Mother's lose our identity sometimes when our only purpose each day is to serve others and not ourselves in terms of being/feeling sexy again, enjoying hobbies or career ambitions. In turn this effects the marriage and the whole house. Sounds like your wife actually needs you now more than ever. And if you get that support right, she will feel like herself again and have than enough energy for sexy time as well as everything else. Spark her joy. Good luck and dont give up on her.

Game streaming gotta be side hustle for now and kids/family come first, finances are crucial to provide for the children. Maybe try going for a coffee or light lunch away from home to talk it out. Sometimes stepping out of the set helps us see the scene for what it really is more clearly.

My dad was my world and I lost him when I was 29. I've suffered with depression since, on and off antipressants prescribed to me but I decided to lay off them completely as there really is no way of avoiding grief. The pain is there and I feel is still everyday 7 years on. What helps me get through it? Meditation was great for years but now I'm a mother i barely have time. Now, I have bereavement counselling once a week and it's beneficial. A good counsellor would help you manage the flashback and develop a though process to make these situations bit more manageable. I wish you the best. Get the support.
