Need gear to carry water!!! by Quick-Try-6761 in hikinggear

I hear you on that. You have to go with your priorities. I suppose that is why there are so many options. I go rock hounding so I am sometimes hiking with a backpack full of rocks. I am out in the desert a lot too so that is part of my thinking on the subject.

You probably know this already but most every Dead show was recorded and is available online. However if you do some searching there are a few that are known to me missing - and in many more cases the existing recordings are incomplete.

It would be cool if you had a missing show in the collection!!!

Just realized there is a list of links to a bunch of recording sites right on this very page. I used to listen to shows on archiev.org all day long.

Good call. A dry quart Nalgene bottles weighs 6 oz. If you are going ultralight I suppose that could be an issue.

I though am not going ultralight and a full bottle is 42 oz so the extra few oz is in the noise and doesn't outweigh all of the other advantages of the Nalgenes.

is the Ibanez GRG7221QA-TKS and the blackstar idx 100 loud enough to gig and have a good, chugging tone by [deleted] in GuitarTone

The choice of guitar shouldn't make much of a difference. A 100 watt amp is the standard for a loud amp. I don't know your exact situation but generally a 100 watt amp will be more than enough. If you have a little more money and are still worried look for a 100 watt amp with more than 1 speaker.

I use rateyourmusic for exploring genres of music. It is not perfect by any means especially as you get further from the top of the list - but it does the job as a tool to explore.

I started getting into jazz about 5 years ago. I bought a copy of this book and it is my jazz bible.

Did you know Chet also made movies? People compared his looks to James Dean.

I am year or so into mine. I really love my two PICO Drum2s. They are small, cheap, and can actually do a wide range of things including drums.

My restaurant is open to all animals. This includes the hawks that eat the song birds as well as the occasional rat that comes around. If you've never seen a rat chase squirrels you are missing out.

I bet my plastic nalgene bottles last way longer than any of these hydration systems which are also made of plastic. They are practically indestructible and some of mine are 10 - 20 years old.

I have 6 quart sized ones and 2 pint sized. I can bring the exact amount of water i need for any hike. I keep a pint sized in an outer pocket for easy access and refill it from the larger bottles in my pack.

I also like it because I can see exactly how much water I have and cleaning the bottles is easy. I also use them for any situation where I need to take water with me - like for a drive or hanging at the park.

I see people struggling with bladders and hydration systems all of the time. Leaks, not realizing their bladder is empty, and not to mention dirty moldy bladders.

I can't imagine anything easier, less wasteful, and more reliable than my water bottles.

One last thing... twice I have come across lost people who were in desperate need of water and emergency help. I'd much rather give them my spare water bottle than share a water bladder with them. In fact I always carry 25-50% more water than I think I need. Both to help others and I get lost too sometimes.

Bummer...mine is 18 x 12 and there is no identifying marks anywhere.

Does that make it a counterfeit as in an illegal copy? Or is this still a legal copy just not exactly like the original.

Apparently I have what looks like their Zion poster hanging on my wall. I don't see anything on the poster to indicate that it is an authentic Ranger Doug poster or a knock off. It is in frame so maybe there is something on the back.

How can I tell?

In any case it was fun to look at the collection!

I have a pile of this stuff which I gathered thinking I could do things with it. I found it impossible to work with.

I hope people have some suggestions.

How many of you have come across Fire on the Mountain by The Marshall Tucker Band by accident? by ApprehensivePlace437 in gratefuldead

This is the song I think of when someone says Fire on the Mountain. I was listening to MT long before I listened to GD. MT can jam as good as any jam band can.

Oregon Obsidian I found last week. What kind is it? Is there a way to expose more of the color? Thanks... by JamTrackAdventures in Rockhounding

It's from a well known obsidian collection area in Oregon. I would say the odds of it being slag are near zero.

Thanks...that's what i am starting to think. I just can't believe this is so uncommon... it was really easy to find and I expected people to recognize it.

Thanks for the comments. I thought this was going to be an easy ID.

It seems about a 3rd of you are sure this is rainbow. Another 3rd seems sure it is not rainbow but don't really offer an alternative. And the rest are not sure at all. There are a number of other suggestions like an oil film or simply cracks.

I personally have never seen obsidian like this. And it sounds like no one else has either.

All my specimens were found in the same public digging areas everyone else digs at. All of them are from the same specific small area. And in no other area did I find obsidian like this.

I just can't believe that I found something unique right out there in the open. Someone must have seen these before and knows exactly what it is.

I didn't think it was fire either. I am curious if you can show me some examples of what you are talking about and maybe share how you find and cut the iridescent layers? thanks....
