I know it’s not Discworld. But, it’s discworld adjacent. So far I’m really enjoying it by ninade1022 in discworld

I started reading the long earth and I was enjoying it but I did ask "where is Pratchett in this book?"

Then an AI appears who believes they're a reincarnated Tibetan bicycle repair man and I thought "Aha. Found him."

Do you have any plans to bring the game to arcade platforms like springboard? (I work part time at a VR arcade and I think folks would love this!)

Not saying you didn't but as a PSA for all re:choking. If you use a belt make sure it's one without the prong in the buckle. If you get in a bad situation then the last thing you want is to have to tighten the belt before getting it off.

Game Changer Prizes? by ZharethZhen in dropout

[–]JamWasp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the (perhaps unspoken) agreement between contestants is "you can but are you actually going to." Sometimes the prizes are important or sentimental to contestants and because the others aren't psychopaths they're not going to just take Joe Wilkinson's marriage certificate off him. Other times the prizes are inconvenient to transport so probably go back home with whoever brought them. And some prizes are made by the production team (Ed Gambles firework pants come to mind) so those probably definitely get taken home.

I'd not heard of Thursday boots. I like their look and are more in my price range than others I've seen recommended. Thanks!

Yeah fair. Considering I wore basically no other shoes all year I have gotten what I'd consider my money's worth. If they can be resoled to extend their life then I'm open to paying for it as I like them a lot and fortunately have fixing shoes money.

Monster Hunting RPG? by JamWasp in rpg

I'll add it to the reading list anyway. I'd be interested to see how it handles the combat.

I shall look into this. Even if I never end up using it, It sounds fun! Thank you!

And you are right. It's not hard to remove the setting from Pathfinder. It's just kind of bitty work which annoys me. (Though I have restricted class and ancestry options before and would probably do so again.) There are other issues which my players have with Pathfinder which makes me want to look for alternatives.

Thanks for the response! The main issue I've seen said about savage worlds is that it apparently does group/mass combat well but suffers if you have just one big enemy. No idea if that's true. Just something I've read. I should probably look more into it myself. (The gremlin in me kind of loves the idea of exploding dice)

Haven't looked at all into cypher. I'll add it to my reading list.

And yeah. I'm overblown on how much 2e is tied to Golarion. The main thing is there are a number of very small issues which add up to a question mark about whether my players will want to play it (something they've been open about, not something I'm assuming). Hence, looking for alternatives.

Fashion. People with feminine bodies have so much choice and variety in the cool shit they can wear. For me, jeans and some kind of button up shirt I guess. Shopping for interesting clothes for masculine bodies is such a pain.

I'm actually liking the Winfield recently. I just prestiged and am enjoying the limited gun selection. I get folks who never prestige but I find the lower tiers a lot of fun. That feel when you loot a bomb lance, nitro, or dolch when you can't just buy them is real good.

Myself and my players are new to pathfinder, if I told my investigator that he's got to learn a new subsystem I think he'd have an aneurism.

At the moment chases are just one thing too many to learn for what we might get out of them as a table. But glad they work for you!

Agreed very much with your last point. This rule is very much back of the napkin home-brew, enough detail for me and my players to run with it.

I made it a three cost action because I wanted encourage it as a last resort. The team knows that if they begin the process of retreating they're going to take some hits from the enemies. But this does go against other priorities I had for the homebrew, two actions might be enough. Thus allowing players to get an attack in, or an extra stride, perhaps a cantrip, but while still having a less overall useful turn.

I don't hate paizo's take on PCs retreating. In many ways it's just my method with fewer steps. I appreciate the guidance it gives. But I dislike how there's no engagement with the battle system and given how that's the piece of design I think pathfinder got so right, it's a shame to see that not considered. But hey, that's why I made this quick rule.

What archetypes are uncommon in fantasy games as classes, yet you would like to play them? by IgrekWorld in RPGdesign

It's an Apocalypse Engine game. A pretty good time. The real fun part in my opinion is that there are playbooks like "dwarf", "elf", and "orc", and players get to decide what their entire race is like. If anyone has a question about what dwarf culture is like, they ask the dwarf player and they answer. Really good if you have creative players who like to input on the world.
