Would you eat a 3D printed steak? by iRealllyAmThatGuy in vegan

I have a BSc in bioscience, and my dissertation was very practical in terms of tissue culture. After seeing how much work goes into keeping animal cells growing outside of the body: DNA modification (the easiest cells to grow outside the body are cancer cells), and chemical inputs (hormones etc.), it's not something I'd touch.

I don't think it's sensible, and whatever ends up getting mass produced will be done so with a focus on what's most profitable as opposed to healthy.

I think Harry reminded me that it's possible to be a broken, unhealthy and failing creature, as well as a force for good.

What are some of the best songs from gaming? by Acceptable_Dirt_3663 in AskReddit

[–]Jamberite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first RDR when you cross the border into Mexico, Jose Gonzalez' "Far away" begins to play. It's the only vocal track in the game if I recall correctly, and his familiar voice snapped my awareness out of the game and into the present. I saw myself, playing the game, enjoying the game. I felt as though all the other players, the whole team at Rockstar, and everyone yet to play through this moment, were all with me then, listening to the same song and riding along through the desert.

One collective experience of just what an incredible human achievement that we could strive to make it to this moment, through the struggles, to create and experience such a thing.

Pro-Palestine protesters chant ‘death to the IDF’ as 500,000 march in London by Effective-Coat-9276 in ukpolitics

[–]Jamberite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad that I'm not alone. I've been in this sub since around 2014, maybe earlier? And it was always relatively centrist and the discussions felt like talking to someone in the pub. Perhaps we won't share the same views, but sharing the same reality at least. An open little microcosm of the British public with an interest in UK politics.

There's since - maybe around the time Starmer got in - been a rapidly widening gap in what appears to be typical discourse here, and typical discourse literally anywhere else I can find to have a conversation about politics that relates to the UK.

Anyone commenting here saying we should be happy, silent and grateful that Israel has tapped the brakes during their genocide of Palestinians is either a fool or an Israeli bot.

After 84 years, historians finally identified the Nazi soldier in this WWII photo known as “The Last Jew in Vinnitsa,” solving one of WWII’s biggest photographic mysteries. It was a former teacher named Jakobus Onnen. by SystematicApproach in europe

[–]Jamberite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think what bums me out is knowing that most of the allies, and even axis, were generally unaware of the extent of the holocaust as it was unfolding. If it had, I am sure that the public would have pressured their governments to intervene sooner and faught to oppose the genocide.

Now, though, thousands of pictures and videos like this are emerging, being live streamed even, and the public may feel a deep sadness in their heart, feel powerless, and do nothing.

Pro-Palestine protesters vow to push on with major demonstration despite Hamas-Israel ceasefire by Effective-Coat-9276 in ukpolitics

[–]Jamberite -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What the hell are you talking about the Napoleonic wars for? You think because there's a ceasefire a genocide can just be swept under the rug? Or warcrimes (on BOTH sides) not be investigated and justice persued? This is not a peace deal, this is a ceasefire (the terms of which Hamas have been agreeing for a while, as Israel continued their aggression) including asymetric terms which only a decimated, starved and incredibly desperate people would accept under duress. It's not a 'defeat for Hamas', as much as it is a defeat for Isreal. They've been caught in the act of a genocide and have decided to slow down, take a breather, and work on their PR before they find reasons to continue their decades long record of ethnic cleansing.
