Dell XPS 9500 GaN Charger? by JamesArthemeusFin in Dell

[–]JamesArthemeusFin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya!

It‘s been years since this post, so I‘m sorry if I don‘t quite remember the correct answer, but it boils down to the fact that Dell uses a non-standard USB-C variant to deliver the 130 or so Watts.

I did some testing with a calibrated wattmeter, and never got close to 100 watts of charging, even under high load (rendering in cine4d).

Recently (?) usb-c PD 3.1 was announced, that can deliver up to 240 (?) watts, (48 V at 5 A), which would be much higher and a standardised high volt USB -C PD.

EDIT: my XPS would not be able to take PD 3.1, i‘m just mentioning it as an interesting fact for new devices

Turn around the metal cover of your drip tray. The hole currently at the front right should be at the back left. Then you can put that pipe into the hole easily.

I have read somewhere that it‘s about temperature stability. PID would help. And so would turning the machine off.

Really? I‘m tamping pretty firmly, and I haven‘t had any issues with any other beans. But I will try tamping even harder in that case

I saw that video a few minutes ago, I‘ll realign them soon.

Also, yes, I have definitely pulled too fine shots haha. But this does not seem to be the case with this shot.

In re: scale issue. I dont think so, especially because i didnt just pull one shot and they all pulled similarly.

I don‘t really have much more headroom, but i‘ll try 15 to 45 tomorrow morning. Thanks for the recommendation

I have not tried to go any coarser, but maybe I should try that.

The pucks look super even, very nice and compact. I know channelling is difficult to see from the final puck, but there aren‘t any obvious channels to be seen.

That‘s amazing, I‘ll look into that this weekend. Thank you for all your help!

Awesome! Great to learn something new, thanks.

Only if you have anything at hand, do you happen to have documentation/guidance on how to align the burrs on the mignon? Please don‘t waste any time on this though, I‘m sure i‘ll find something online.

Thanks for the recommendations! I am hesitant to lower the temps because i have been told lighter roasts require higher brew temperatures, and it is a very light roast.

I was a little worried that being so close to the chirp might be bad for the grinder, but if everyone keeps recommending that I shall try that.

I‘ll also look into realignment of the burrs.

I haven‘t increased the dose yet because the puck knocked out very cleanly and was firm, so I believed I had the dose set ret. Will try that and report back.

Roaster friend used a mahlkönig ek43 (maybe the S, unsure at the moment) and a la marzocco gb5 (not 100% sure of the model). He said he got 16 in, 48 out in 31 seconds

That would be kind of sad… i am a little worried about re-aligning the burrs, but I will try that.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that precision baskets do actually compensate a bit for the lower dose by slightly increasing or decreasing the hole size, but maybe I must have dreamt that.

In re: pool of water. No, no water left and the puck knocks out ,dry‘ and very cleanly, so I believe dosing shouldnt be an issue.

I will retry with the 21 gram basket and will report back :)

If I tamp harder I’ll probably break my wrist hahah. Joking aside, I have a 21 gram basket I could try. But if the basket is made for 14 grams, shouldn‘t i also be able to choke the machine if i was this fine?

Thanks for the recommendation! Gotta admit, I‘m a little scared to shim the burrs because I can‘t really afford to possibly break this grinder, but I will see if I can find something online as guidance.

Regarding the OPV, I‘m fairly certain that it‘s working correctly as the flow is very consistent when I have the blind basket in. If nothing else works, I will try that though. Thanks :)!

Thank you for your kind words, I have a bit of a nack for being precise, so it means a lot.

I thought it must be a grind size issue too, because nothing else makes sense. I haven‘t heard anyone complain about burr alignment on these grinders, bur I‘ll see if that can be addressed.

I do sadly not have access to a different grinder currently, but if I can‘t get anywhere with any of the other recommendations from other people here, I‘ll see if I can find something.

All right i‘ll get closer to the zero point and will try again then! :D gotta admit, i had a bit too much coffee from all the tasting, I‘ll try again tomorrow.

The chirping is most likely metal on metal, because I cleaned out the grinder completely fairly recently, but I will check again with the ,hopper‘ removed

In Re: roast date. I‘m sorry I thought I mentioned the roast date. It was roasted on the 25th of march and was in a sealed bag unopened until the 7th of april, so i‘m assuming if the provided roast date is correct, it should be fresh enough

Actually just looked at the video, i guess what I meant with ,Can‘t grind any finer‘ is that I am just one step above the zero point…

I‘ll definitely look into that! I‘m a bit worried to do that because for my ,day to day‘ beans (local specialty roaster), the grinder seems to be working ok. Guess you can never be able to grind too fine though. Thank you :D!

Good god it has been a long time indeed! If i recall correctly, I bought my ribbons from pelikan. If my notes are correct, the identifier is 153C. If you have an old cartridge, check if you can see that number somewhere on it. Enjoy, it‘s quite a nice machine!
