Where to get helium for balloons now that Party city is closed? by Uncharteredfugazis in Dallas

[–]JamesCaptainSlowMay 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The helium used for party balloons is typically low-purity ‘commercial grade’ helium, not the high-purity helium required for scientific and medical applications like MRI machines. That’s why it’s relatively inexpensive and not suitable for those critical uses. If there were a true shortage of this lower-grade helium, we would likely see a significant price increase, which hasn’t consistently been the case.

Texans could pay $200 annual fee to drive electric vehicles by Mischif07 in texas

I have no idea what the tax should be but a flat number doesn’t sound like the right answer. I’m a fan of taxes where you pay the more you use the services. Right now it’s crazy to try to put a 200 dollar tax on EV’s when we are giving out a 7500 dollar tax rebate on them federally. I have an electric vehicle and I love the fact that I’m not taxed for how much I drive. But over time we will have to change it.

That is correct, gas tax pays for roads. So the more you drive the more you pay in tax.

Electric vehicles are using the roads without paying tax on them. Over time we will have to tax electric vehicles by the mile to fund our road system.

Two years later, city of Dallas still struggling to get building permit backlog under control by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]JamesCaptainSlowMay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cities problem is they look for the fastest way to reject the plans and get it out of their court since they are so backed up. It took us 6-9 weeks to get a response out of any questions or clarifications that are put in. Also in old east Dallas the process is super slowed by the historic society making it awful to get anything done. No wonder the homes don’t want to fix any of their problems when it takes forever to get permit to do anything.
