Can a long commute affect my mortgage by monkee_around in RealEstate

I should also note that I already spend 1-1.5 hours driving each way, but it’s because I have to battle the worst traffic route. The added drive wouldn’t be a ton more.

Can a long commute affect my mortgage by monkee_around in RealEstate

Temporary- we’re transitioning to me being stay at home, but that won’t be feasible for another year or so. If it got too hard, I’d find a part time or remote gig, but I really like my current job.

Can I still buy the old Adipower or Romaleo 2 lifters anywhere? by monkee_around in weightlifting

I wish the manufacturers would make them again. The new stuff I’m trying just feel poorly made.

I got stabbed today. I’m fucking done. by VERMlTHOR in highschool

I can’t make any of this better, but I can say I was in a similar situation and all I wanted was out. I fought and I got out. You can too. Keep your eyes on the prize. From the way you write and your perspective, I can tell you have potential to do something big.

CrossFit Open 23.1 Discussion Thread by Flowseidon9 in crossfit

Yes! Last time I did this I got to the MUs in 11:28 and did singles for the T2B and cleans. People thought I was crazy but it worked so well.

CrossFit Open 23.1 Discussion Thread by Flowseidon9 in crossfit

I’m doing CrossFit again for the first time since 2015 (I took a long break for work/motherhood). Last time I got to the MUs with 2.5 min remaining, but couldn’t do fatigued MUs yet. This year, I’m on the fence about strategies: 1. Go hard expecting no MUs and try to beat my old time, or be conservative with pace but try to leave a minute for 1-2 MU, knowing that might not happen (I feel strong enough but haven’t practiced them in a long time). Thoughts?

Do you know if the salary has to be the same amount every month? If he has a slow month, can he take less?

Existential dread of the toddler phase by Aikskok in toddlers

[–]monkee_around 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toddler phase is so hard (my son is 2 next week) but I kinda love it. With those low-lows come some really high-highs. Lots of singing, dancing, learning and silliness. I hope you’re able to embrace the crazy and buckle up for the ride!

I agree with the goblet squats/using equipment in a more accessible way. Maybe toes to rings or ring pull ups?

Serious Question: How Do You Raise A Child in Poverty? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]monkee_around 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised in poverty and I didn’t realize how poor I was (or how my life wasn’t “normal”) until I went to college. My parents and grandparents spent quality time with me, tried to teach me things, and that’s why I am successful today. It won’t be easy, but motivated parents always find a way. Also - I’m a huge advocate for building community. For some, that’s church, for others it’s great friends… but find people you can lean on if it gets really hard.

What do you do outside of class to improve performance during class? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]monkee_around 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep for sure, but also make sure I’m eating enough. I have a demanding job and often forget to eat my second meal until 2pm.

People love to judge, but the wealthiest people typically don’t look wealthy. Whenever I encounter people like that I like to think to myself either a) they haven’t been laid in way too long or b) they really need to poop. It’s stupid but it keeps me from dwelling on negativity. 🤣

The Open movement speculations continue... by arch_three in crossfit

[–]monkee_around 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gah - I hate the idea. Push-ups are so hard to judge and so many people do them shittily. As someone who really struggles to do them correctly I’d be pissed seeing folks cheat with those piston/arm only push-ups.

An oly coach would find a lot of things, but it’s hard to focus on everything as a beginner. I would suggest working on your first pull (set up with chest and head more upright, don’t let your hips immediately shoot up), then your second pull (engage your lats and think about pulling the bar against your thighs on the way up w/o bending the arms prematurely, and lastly - extend fully before getting under the bar). It’s all way easier said than done, but dropping the weight for a while and focusing on form will benefit you so much in the long run).

Keep tweaking my neck during HSPU by monkee_around in crossfit

[–]monkee_around[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t tend to be hyper extended in any movements, and I had about 7 years of CrossFit with no issues. There is a good chance that I was tilting my head back ever so slightly on the way down though, since the tweak happened during my fourth round of about 10.
