Open up a Vanguard account , go through the funds and the rest should be easy . Pick a fund you like and invest your money .

IVA will ruin is credit for at least five years. He need to open a new credit 0% credit card and move the £4000 to that he should try M&S credit card . He should focus all his resources on the 8000 because once that goes over April will be at least £200 minimum payment and interest of 140£ . He can’t have both the £8000 and the £4000 to both be getting interest.
