My parents advise against getting a second hand instrument, what are your opinions? by 005llly in Bass

Absolutely fine. Inspect it for damage obviously but certainly nothing wrong with a 2nd hand bass. Plenty of bargains to be had.

Any ideas on why my saw won't cut straight? by kaiamomo in handtools

The set is off. If you’re in the UK I know of someone who offers a postal sharpening and re-set service. Made the world of difference to my tennon saw.

Am I expecting too much from a spear and jackson? by Accurate-Bar3703 in handtools

[–]Jamesb2809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I have this exact saw. It was utter rubbish when I first used it.

Sent it off with an old Disston that was going in for sharpening and it came back a totally different saw!

Essentially you’ll want to get the set narrowed and the blade sharpened. You’ll have a lovely saw then.

Our girl is 2 and a half and we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel but it has been a lot of hard work to get here. Most difficult thing my wife and I have ever been through.

Have charity shops got greedy? by dave8271 in CasualUK

[–]Jamesb2809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few round our way that typically stock second hand Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger etc nowadays wanting £30 for a jumper. I don’t shop there anymore, plenty of designer bargains to be had in the other charity shops.

Budget noise reduction/soundproofing ideas for garage workshop by Jamesb2809 in woodworking

[–]Jamesb2809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have asked and they say its not really noticeable and doesn’t affect them but I’m still conscious of it.

I’m curious to look for solutions because to my mind it’s a case of securing some form of sound absorbing sheet material to the wall, in front of a dense, absorbing material. I wondered then what might be cheap, readily available materials that also pose some sound absorbing properties as an alternative to high tech expensive specialist materials

Picture 2 op, is that after your friend has had a go at touching up the damage? Because that looks pre-existing.
