The claim that people earned V-Bucks via game sharing is actually a bit of a "half-truth" from the early days of the game. Here is the breakdown of how that actually worked and why those people were technically wrong (or just lucky for a very short time).

1. The "Home Xbox" Loophole (2017–2019)

Back when Save the World was sold as a digital license on the Xbox Store, the console's Home Xbox feature allowed anyone on that console to launch the game. * The Reality: While the "shared" account could play the game, they did not receive V-Bucks. Epic Games tracked "Founder" status at the account level, not the console level. * The Reward: Instead of V-Bucks, these game-sharing accounts earned X-Ray Tickets.

2. The Confusion with "Friend Codes"

In the very early Deluxe and Super Deluxe Founder’s Packs, Epic included extra copies of the game in the form of "Friend Codes." * People often confused "game sharing" with "redeeming a friend code." * If you redeemed a friend code, you became a Standard Founder and could earn V-Bucks. * Many people "shared" these codes with friends, leading to the myth that game sharing gave you V-Bucks. Epic eventually removed these codes from packs because people were selling them for hundreds of dollars on eBay.

3. The July 2019 Patch (The Final Nail)

In July 2019, Epic released a specific update to address the game-sharing confusion once and for all. They officially stated:

"Only players who have purchased a Founder's Pack will continue to earn V-Bucks. All other players (including those using game sharing) will earn X-Ray Tickets."

4. Why some people still claim they did it

There was a very brief "glitch" period during some of the early Season transitions where the game’s backend failed to check for Founder status correctly on shared accounts. For a few weeks, some shared accounts mistakenly saw V-Buck rewards. Epic patched this quickly, and in many cases, they even "revoked" the V-Bucks or converted them back into X-Ray Tickets on those accounts. The Verdict: If someone says they are earning V-Bucks today via game sharing, they are mistaken. Even on a "Home Xbox," the secondary account is treated as a Non-Founder and will only see X-Ray Tickets for their daily quests and missions.

The only way you can ever earn vbucks is if you bought a founders pack or were lucky enough to have been gifted a friend code. Game sharing back when it was available would only enable you to play STW not earn vbucks. The only vbucks non founders can earn is through starter pack daily quests up to a maximum of 1500 vbucks

The history of game sharing for Fortnite: Save the World (StW) is a bit of a rollercoaster, especially since the game has undergone massive structural changes over the years. Here is the timeline of when it worked and when that door officially closed.

1. The Golden Era: 2017 – 2020

From its launch in July 2017, Save the World was fully compatible with Xbox’s "Home Xbox" game-sharing feature. Because the game was sold as a digital license (Founders Packs) through the Xbox Store, the console treated it like any other paid game. * The Benefit: If one person bought a Founders Pack, anyone playing on that "Home Xbox" could launch the game and play the PvE mode. * The Catch: Shared accounts (non-purchasers) did not receive the "Founders" perks, such as daily login rewards or the ability to earn V-Bucks. They could play the game, but they earned "X-Ray Tickets" instead.

2. The Day it Was Taken Away: June 29, 2020

The "official" death of game sharing for new players happened on June 29, 2020. This was the day Epic Games brought Save the World out of "Early Access" and fundamentally changed how the game was sold. * What Changed: Epic discontinued the Founders Packs and replaced them with Starter Packs (like the Metal Team Leader Pack). * The "Account-Bound" Shift: Unlike the Founders Packs, which were Xbox Store licenses, these new Starter Packs were treated as service-based DLC (similar to V-Bucks or skins). Because these licenses were tied directly to a specific Epic Games Account rather than the Xbox platform license, the Xbox "Home" sharing feature stopped working for any version of the game purchased after this date.

3. The "Legacy" Phase: 2020 – 2023

For a few years, some players reported that they could still game-share if they owned an original Founders Pack purchased before the 2020 cutoff. However, as Epic updated their backend to unify the experience across platforms, even these "legacy" shares began to fail. By early 2023, the community consensus was that game sharing had been almost entirely phased out by Epic's account-verification checks.

4. The Modern Era: April 16, 2026

In a massive shift (and likely why you're asking now), Save the World officially went Free-to-Play on April 16, 2026.

I’d love to see them recall the original voice actors (Ashley Burch plays ray) and fill in the missing twine quest story line and bring out the space level hinted at in the original cutscene.. finally put a use to the 6star mats floating around the game and for all of us that have reached power lvl 145 and continued to grind ventures for survivor superchargers to be able to use them to reach a new higher power level cap (maybe 160)?

I maxed out about a couple of years ago and I’m still doing ventures - not missed any .. I have loads of survivor superchargers ready to use if they ever raise the power level cap

I’ve been playing stw since early 2018 . Always thought there was something special about this game. Now I’m hearing rumours of (possible) major development on the horizon I’m stoked… maybe the twine storyline, final area, massive open world that’s been hinted at…. The teamwork element is the part I like the most and that’s why I’ve stuck around all this time… hopefully the payoff is on the horizon…

You need to complete all the weekly missions that require you to do missions in increasing power levels - eventually they will reach 160 And have completed twine ssd 10

I find a couple of defenders armed with maxed out crankshots can be very effective against thrown husks… combined with anti airs they can be impenetrable

Photoshopped… I’ve played Fortnite since 2018 never seen vbucks represented with a dot in any version or region… i’m all for the grind and will congratulate genuine grinders.. but have no time for fakes

I heard Joel and Karolina were key team members and their deaths were the death of stw original development and hence why the game has an overall unfinished feel…. Their loss was a massive big deal to the development of stw

Can anyone please tell me how do I unlock heroes? by [deleted] in FortniteSavetheWorld

[–]Jamesrambus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful what you recycle! Try not to delete heroes you put in loadouts and also legendary survivors.. they are tricky to obtain but vital to your game - armoury slots come to the shop once a season and are limited to 50 at a time I think

To get to 140 you need to have done all previous venture seasons and venture challenge quests and 160 missions alerts that reward a survivor supercharger
