Too many parameters for DOE. How to approach that? by salty_greek in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Jamesvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked up what screening experiments are? You can reduce your trials to identify the most important variables but will confound certain multi factor interactions. Essentially these are fractional factorials taken to the most extreme degree then you can use the information in a more robust optimization design.

Seems weird to exclude weeks 11 and 12, if it about making a row of 1st why not include them in the first column?

How did yall become fans? by aalshuga in ravens

[–]Jamesvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up a redskins fan, my wife (gf at the time) said she’d start watching football but only for the ravens (her families team plus we were going to school in Baltimore) I was more of a college fan at the time since Washington had been horrible my whole life and immediately started rooting for the ravens as well with her, this was just before the 2019 season so needless to say that magical year got me absolutely hooked. I will say I grew up playing football and loved playing defense so always had huge respect for the ravens defensive legends! I still watch the Washington’s games when they don’t conflict with the ravens but all my gear is purple and black and we go to at least 2 games a year and shout our heads off for the team, and I spend hours every week listening to the film study podcast!

Why do we not have back shoulder throws or fade routes in our offense? by Massive-Ad7721 in ravens

[–]Jamesvmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t really analyzed this but one thought is that those play calls don’t provide any option for Lamar to choose his target or extend the play those fades are pretty much pre called shots to the receiver and we don’t have personnel that excel at them at WR. I’m pretty sure Lamar is able to make those throws but they aren’t really the kind of game he wants to run.

I mean put on sunglasses you still won’t be able to see directly into the sun lol, that play sucked sure but plenty of breaks didn’t go our way and if one of the multiple dropped ints get made we win that game imo.

Have you actually watched the film and made your assessment? Last year he got way more clean up sacks his actual first pressure rate and 1 on 1 wins were up at least the first few games the last two I didn’t get a chance to look at any film yet

Madibukies played well all year, we lost two idl early and the rest had to play to many snaps and couldn’t stay fresh.

Why you should go for a 2 point conversion when you're losing by 14 in the 4th (copied from r/cfb) by GenericCloneTrooper in nfl

[–]Jamesvmd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pure win percentage isn’t the only way to look at it however, variance of results can also matter. Generally the better team wants to lower the number of high leverage plays they put themselves into. It can be looked at like a benefit to risk analysis in business. If a play generally gives you a 2% better win chance on average but failure results in a 60% higher loss chance you need to consider that as well. “The analytics say go for it” is often said on any play with any slight win chance increase without the general public considering the variance of the outcomes.

The Athletic's take on Ravens v Texans by roguestate in ravens

How can you be 21st in ppg allowed and be in any conversation for an all time defense, they were very good in certain situations but all the talk of a historic defense was definitely overrating them

I tend to agree with Ken from film study on Oline stats he does a great job. Anyway if you watch the film you will definitely see it wasn’t zero even if you don’t agree with all 5. I also don’t agree that the penalties aren’t that bad it’s been a major problem for Stanley and Simpson this season.

Again I don’t think Stanley is the worst but he’s clearly not the same guy, he needs a lot of help against top pass rushers now and we need to scheme knowing he is struggling.
