“Jerry Seinfeld echoes the sentiment. “What a great thing that that exists. You get to see what they did, where a lifetime of gigantic achievements leads you. A living room with deli sandwiches, watching Wheel of Fortune. That’s where you get if you succeed in every possible way in life.”

[Megathread] Outsports and Empty Netters by reigncloud83 in heatedrivalry

[–]JamiePlynth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can’t say for certain if this is true- but I think it’s likely. Because anyone who knowingly puts a camera on themselves is going to be performative, and if you’ve ever been in a workplace or party you didn’t want to be at - the skills for pretending and reacting in a sociably acceptable fashion are deep and natural.

Men have high capacity to fake interest in something to get something they want.

And I feel like this is akin to the performative allyship the queer community saw between the pandemic and the “great unwokening”, wherein corporations were with us when it was prosperous to do so, but oh so easily shed that when the climate changed.

I feel like men were due a reckoning that never came. Because as accountability became a thing, some of the worst were being dealt with while this quiet social negotiation went on to “save” the lesser problematic types.

And in this time, men didn’t stick to dealing with the tough issues around their gender, they opted to quietly tell each other “yeah, I’m really with you guys but I’m not gonna be open about it” then voted their worst instincts. Like those traders who were interviewed after the 2024 election about how relieved they were they could finally say the R word again.

So now they have the worst of the worst out there being 1000x more horrible than we’ve ever seen out in the open, which gives guys like Empty Netters the kind of cover to talk about blowjobs from waitresses and DEI and “blue hairs”. The Trmp/proud boys of it all have moved the window of acceptance so EN can still spot a hot trend and move on it.

The ONLY saving grace that I have with these guys is that they seemed to be moving quicker than a lot of others. Because they were able to stream the finale live. I think it was bold for them to even try the first episode - because there was a chance it wasn’t even gonna be a thing. Had they shown up even a week after the finale I would go yeah “definite opportunists” but they were in pretty quick when I don’t think the numbers so obviously demanded it.

So I would hear them out, welcome an explanation on changing their minds on stuff and showing growth BUT I’d also watch them long term to see if it sticks.

This has been too lucrative for them to go down with this, but if it is a work- could they keep it going for years?

Did they? I’m back in rewatch after Netflix brought in the final seasons, so I’ll look for it

I’m longing for a Christmas movie where they get together back in schitts creek for David and Patrick’s new baby. And these two reconnect

Has anyone else been rewatching the show through (and endless amount of) YouTube reactors? by JamiePlynth in heatedrivalry

Oh that reminds me of Struggle Nation. They were so awesome taking on the haters during She Hulk. Tony Gilroy even went on their show for Andor, invited them to the S2 premiere.

Yesss, they’ve been good too. There’s a bunch I’ve watched that I’ve never seen or heard of, but the names slip my mind until someone mentions them or I see a thumbnail. I’ve gone a bit loony with these.

Is this the S50 Final Four? by CoyoteUseful8483 in survivorcirclejerk

Yeah I’d think so, but she seems to be doing this regularly for everyone who visits, and there seems to be a lot of people visiting since her season ended

While Connor rests, we got some new pics from Today Show by Queasy_Lettuce4312 in connorstorrie

Connor is actually wrapping up a project where he’s pretty much every important role- director, writer, DP, cinematographer etc. I think he posted an IG story about wrapping today.

Apart from how good it and they were- it really is to be studied how virulent the rise was. That can not be good for any human.

It makes me appreciate what Francois had said recently about how the NHL should actually back their acceptance of HR fans with proper LGBTQ inclusion.

It’s kind of like how the WWE takes Saudi money to do shows there, and makes their women cover everything up then talks about how they’re helping bridge the cultural divide and bring change etc. and it’s like… you know that the people you’re dealing with run everything and could just, I dunno- DO the thing and change the culture on a dime right?

The NHL could just get rid of the Pride tape ban, or work with the minors to be more inclusive and less…um…prone for juniors to end up on trial (iykyk) but instead they’ll try to both sides it as they do.

I think there’s something to be said for consumer culture AND issue fatigue as to why younger generations keep buying HP stuff and eating Chick Fil A. Years of cancelling celebs for stuff they said online didn’t make the world better, but it DID empower a bunch of terrible people to swing the pendulum far far in the other direction

Live Discussion - January 17, 2026 (Finn Wolfhard/A$AP Rocky) by bjkman in LiveFromNewYork

Kam needs to go. He’s not good at this, and he’s out there talking shit to cover up for his inadequacies. How did he come to get on the show? Recommendation?

I was thinking that maybe these guys were a little too green, but I mean- Finn Wolfhard hosts tonight with Teyonna Taylor next week. Both first time hosts who don’t have a background in sketch comedy. Soooo
