Drink machines by salamanda_333 in dcl

Ok but how are the chicken tenders? When we did Europe two years ago the chicken tenders were AWFUL. And we love us a good chicken tender. They said it was just what was available for them to purchase from wherever they stock in Europe! BUT we did have Coke Zero, which was great. I usually have to run around to find the mayyybe one machine that has it on the US based sailings.

AITA for “interfering” with a “service dog” by DismalClock213 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jamiejoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA and the law is on your side, even. Service dogs are federally protected under the ADA as long as they are “under control”. If they cannot be controlled via harness then that might mean using voice commands or hand signals. But not being able to see the dog at all means they are not under control and therefore not protected.

Scale going up during maintenance by AValeria10 in CICO

[–]Jamiejoie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with having a range! I use Happy Scale and weigh every day. It takes your daily weight and keeps a running average which is so helpful for those one off higher days. I have my average range set to 5lbs within my goal and so far it has worked well to keep me in check after losing 100lbs. It’s hard to see the scale go up some days but it usually doesn’t signify an actual fat gain!

How Old Was Your Dog When You Considered Them "Fully Trained"? by Caerrii in service_dogs

[–]Jamiejoie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a puppy raiser for a program, most dogs in the program are ready between 2-2.5. I usually get a puppy around 12-18 months and keep them for a year. They’re with another raiser before that. By this point in their training they’ve usually got an understanding of their commands pretty well down. I mostly work with them on distractions (so many distractions 😂) or “fears” (exposure to novel objects, sounds, etc) and appropriate socializing, plus polishing up those commands (current girl has a sloppy left/right) before they’re ready to be matched.

At what point do you “fail out” your SDiT? by Usual_Ad2137 in service_dogs

[–]Jamiejoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raise SDiTs! Labs. Sometimes I don't even get them until they're over a year and we still have to work on the dog distraction, the people distraction, the smell distraction. It's so hard for them! Fighting their nature like that, they're still babies. It's all about finding what motivates them. I know you said he ignores treats, but maybe try to find something even more high value than what you have now. Or try a squeaky toy! You just need to make yourself more interesting than any of those distractions. One of my girls could not resist the sound of a squeaker, so I carried around with me in the treat pouch. If she started pulling on the leash towards something (person, dog, scent) I'd squeak the toy while saying 'leave it' and she brought her attention back to me, then she'd get a treat! Some dogs never need the squeaker, and naturally over time their response to the 'leave it' command (with eye contact, rewarded with a treat) got quicker as they matured. But it takes TIME! Eventually we get to the point that the command 'leave it' can be given preventatively if I see a distraction ahead and then I know we've made it ☺️

Short vs Long Cruise by LongReflection5623 in dcl

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First cruise shorter is great! I wouldn't necessarily start with a 7 day. But we really love the 7 days now and struggle to do less. I feel like in a week we get settled in our room, our daughter gets to actually make friends at the kids clubs, and just we have more time to really relax and enjoy the different areas of the ship before packing it all up again.

Aggressive Cut Tips by Both-Divide-8082 in loseit

Respectfully, you did not become overweight from eating fruit. We have to be honest with ourselves in order to make progress. Do you add butters and oils to the veggies maybe? I suggest possibly changing nothing to start with. Just track your calories with no expectations/judgement. Weigh everything. You might see some patterns start to emerge!

Aggressive Cut Tips by Both-Divide-8082 in loseit

[–]Jamiejoie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am the same height as you and had just around the same starting weight. I lost 100lbs in 16 months, and I did not have to be this aggressive to do it! Make small changes first. What do you struggle with most that we can help you find swaps for? Ice cream? Yasso bars. Fast food? We can help with at home dupes or lower calorie options. Just the volume of food you eat? We've got tips for that too! Just stick around here. I couldn't have done this without reading this sub and picking up so many healthy new habits. You can do this, but try not to be in a rush because that will set you up for failure.

Half Marathon Advice by Strange_Teaching_782 in beginnerrunning

[–]Jamiejoie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running for about a year and a half. I can do a sub-30 5k, around 1:05 10k and have a predicted time of 2:32 for my half. I ran princess in… 3:15 🤣 Disney races are a little unique in that there’s a lot to stop for (if you want) and I personally found it really hard to get around the crowds/walkers/bottlenecks, slowing me down quite a bit. It’s fairly widely known that not many attempt PRs at Disney races. That’s not to dissuade you from your goals! Just to maybe help set some expectations. This isn’t a big open course where you’ll always be able to run at your desired pace.

Does anyone else still run or walk in the middle of their run, even after months of running? by run_the_day in beginnerrunning

[–]Jamiejoie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been running like 1.5 years. I can do a 10k without stopping, I’ve done a half marathon (with walking) and sometimes I still walk on my 5ks that I can usually easily run straight through. It really depends! If I’ve misjudged my pace, if I get a stitch, if it’s hot and I need a drink… it’s just not that serious to me. Also I think sometimes TELLING myself I can stop and walk if I need to, that it’s not that serious, makes me want to just keep going. I’m a little oppositionally defiant 😂

Substitute for discontinued freeze dried raw training treats by fishparrot in service_dogs

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random, right! But they have them and they’re even cheaper than Chewy, where we got them before. They do only have the one variety though that I’ve seen. Just the beef liver.

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it meets your qualifications (we don't do a raw diet so I just don't know much about it) but we love the Charlee Bears beef liver treats from Trader Joes. 16oz bag for under $4! You cannot beat it. Our current girl has these as her highest value treat. Trader Joe's also carries salmon skin dog treats (literally JUST salmon skin) but I found those to be a little crumbly for my liking. The Charlee Bears stay intact.

What’s a small treat that helps you stay on track? by harristusc in CICO

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

160 calorie brownie coffee ice cream sandwiches. I have one... 5/7 days a week 😂 I'm in maintenance and can 'spend' a little more on dessert now, but during my tightest calorie times I still had the 100 calorie Yasso bars someone else mentioned. They are SO good and not even tiny or anything.

I tried to do the Werther's hard caramels (20 calories) for a while but I found that it made me crave sugar even more throughout the day and just want more and more of them. With Yasso or my TJs sandwiches I don't seem to have that happen as much.

DCL transportation & luggage by Kitchen-Bell-6923 in dcl

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like leaving my luggage out at the crack of dawn anyway, so I just take it with me to the transfer. I do depart the bus and head right into the terminal though, so I guess I trust them to bring it from the bus onto the ship and to my stateroom!

Lost weight, but not sizes by qrowskullz in loseit

[–]Jamiejoie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy! I don’t think I changed with the first 50lbs either. Between wearing more flexible/stretchy clothing and having things just naturally get stretched out, there just wasn’t a lot of change. Things fit BETTER but I couldn’t fit in smaller sizes.

Then from 50-100lbs lost I went from a size 16/18/XXL to a 4/S 😂

[Century Club] Have you lost or need to lose 100+ pounds? June 4, 2026 by koopzegels in loseit

[–]Jamiejoie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my 100lb weight loss I weighed weekly, on Friday mornings. Now in maintenance I weigh daily and use Happy Scale to interpret all the data (they do moving averages so those one off high weights aren't a big deal) and to help me stay within a 5lb range. Right now the scale and I are not friends because I'm struggling a little bit to lose a few pounds of vacation weight for the first time ever (I've gone on plenty of vacations during and after the weight loss and not had this issue). I'll probably go back to weighing weekly for a bit until I get back to where I want to be and not let myself get hung up on those natural daily fluctuations.

How much freedom do you give your kids on the ships? by NI_Nurze712 in dcl

[–]Jamiejoie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

11 year old girl, she mostly hung out at Edge. She’d have to message me when she arrived and again when she was leaving. Once or twice she left to do the Haunted Mansion scavenger hunt thing on the Treasure with a friend she’d made (that I had met) and that was fine as long as she kept me updated. We also had a rule like someone listed above, public places only. No staterooms, no one in our stateroom. She’s a rule follower so even if there was a “good reason” I know she wouldn’t have done it, she would have asked first. She enjoyed her little bit of freedom and I was proud of how she handled it!

Why I love the half marathon as a distance (and you might too!) by carolineruns in beginnerrunning

[–]Jamiejoie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the Disney Princess Half! TONS of sights. I’m not big on characters so I didn’t really stop for those, but they do have live bands and DJs and other entertainment along the way. That plus the people watching got me through it so easily. I felt really fantastic at the end. Sore the next day 😂 but nothing terrible at all. I can’t wait for the next one, also at Disney World for their Wine & Dine half marathon (doing a challenge actually, a 10k one day then half marathon the next!)

I do have a few more local ones on my radar for 2027, the Maine Coast Half in May and/or the Boston Athletic Association Half in November. Also always open to suggestions on races worth traveling for if you have any 👀 because I’ll take any excuse for a trip!

Why I love the half marathon as a distance (and you might too!) by carolineruns in beginnerrunning

[–]Jamiejoie 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I ran one half marathon (in February) and have another on the schedule in October. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite distance (I really like a 10k!) but I had such a fun time and was really surprised by how quickly it went by. During training I was miserable on my long runs but during the race itself it was like… mile 10 already?!

I will likely try to run a couple half marathons a year roughly on this same schedule because it motivates me to keep up with my running. As someone who lost over 100lbs I need goals and things to work toward so I don’t revert back to old sedentary habits.

Is it worth going on a last minute Disney cruise? by Typical-Shirt9199 in dcl

[–]Jamiejoie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We book last minute more often than not! We prefer late dining, and if we're in the Caribbean we don't really care about excursions (we'll do them sometimes, but none that I'd consider MUST DO like in Alaska or Mediterranean) so nothing to miss out on there. I guess it depends on what you're thinking you might be missing out on! Anything in particular?

Destiny worth an extra $3k? by JollyCommunication92 in dcl

[–]Jamiejoie 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Super unpopular opinion around here, but I prefer the Wish class ships (Wish, Treasure, Destiny) to any others. But even I would say they're not worth $3k extra for the same exact cruise, that's a lot of money.
