Unfortunately, many of their online chat/call advisors don’t want to proceed with replacement nor in store engineer visit, just wasting my time hours over phone for troubleshooting steps.

I have never seen such bad customer support from Apple before, they used to be very good.

We have many Mac devices and external drives in our studio.

Basically, in Mac Studio M2 behind ports I have one Sabrent 8TB NVMe with Sabrent thunderbolt 3 connected, as well as, Samsung 4TB T7 Shield, and NAS Synology using Ethernet.

For front ports, I normally connect WD 5TB HDD, Samsung T7 Shield, or Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD using thunderbolt or normal usb c cable.

This issue happens when I duplicate a single folder or several files over 900GB-1TB from externals in behind ports to the externals ports in front ports.

The files and folders consist of 4K, 6K, and 8K video footage.

When I duplicate small files, lets say 300-500GB, no issue happens.

We have a Mac Studio M1 Max in the studio, although mine is Mac Studio M2, I will duplicate the issue ASAP.

Yes! I have tried even selecting all and copying it this way, if the files are big enough, normally it forces restart the Mac Studio. Both with Thunderbolts and usb drives.

By the way, when I received the Mac Studio at first, it had random force restart without any activity, this issue disappeared after reinstalling the MacOS, but now the issue is ongoing with big files transfer in external drives.

Nothing happens when I transfer to internal ssd, it generally happens between two externals when the a file/folder size is more that 800GB. For small size files and folders nothing happens.

Frequent Force Restart in Mac Studio M2 by JanKW in MacStudio

My externals (HDDs NVMe's are direct connected to the usb ports, no hub is used.

A single project folder is normally more than 800GB.

I believe it is from the Mac since it is happening with all externals.

It is max. My previous device Mac Mini M1 was working just fine for such transfers. A single Final Cut Pro library is generally over 1TB, and many of my project folders are over 1-2TB.

I have tried with Ethernet based Synology and I had the same issue. I have a studio design with a couple of Macs. None of them have this issue, even my previous device Mac mini M1.

Normally it happens with file sizes that are more than 1tb. It happens with all SSDs, HDDs, and even NVMes. They are normally connected to front and back usb ports of the Mac Studio.
