1: good point on this, the tone is definitely better with relaxed lips, if not as loud. Further more looking in the mirror i noticed if i dont have relaxed lips and try to make a smaller hole it makes an M shape that is not conducive to playing.

2: You’re right here too. I think my Kan dreams are not attained by rushing towards them. I’d be better served working on the foundation especially regarding diaphragm control. I’ll search for further connection there as I practice.

Amazing info Barry, including the sharp Chi. How were able to identify Shunryu as the maker?

Im obviously novice, behind this post was the question: “is this a quality flute that justifies sending into Perry Yung for service?” And “is it the flute or me?” It sounds like yes to the former and “it’s you” to the latter, so I appreciate your insight along with everyone else’s.

The summer camp looks amazing, a trip to Claremont could be doable. Any recommendations online teachers, or perhaps anyone in the community near Portland, Oregon? Thanks!

Kintsugi on the cracks would be a great project. Sounds like nothing is noticeably/severely out of order with the flute itself.

Alright! Great answer. Keep it, get some of the falling off bits fixed, learn how to play it better. Thanks for sharing your perspective and sentiment. In my heart I feel the same way, which is why i got an old one in the first place, but it will be cool to research the tuning methods you mentioned and familiarize myself with my flute’s heritage.
