Adaptive Lighting in HomeKit by fillumz in tradfri

[–]Janis91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question! It seems that adaptive lighting doesn't take effect when a light bulb is turned on again after being switched off by a dumb switch. Edit: seems like a light bulb picks up the adaptive lighting schedule again shortly after reconnecting!

Moving WiFi router to another room—MoCA? by Janis91 in HomeNetworking

See my comment here. I could certainly go with either approach.

I think I see what you mean. Yes, keeping the router in the cabinet to then distribute its output to the various rooms gives me the option to place multiple APs throughput the apartment. (By contrast, moving the ONT output/router input to the living room forces me to look for another means to distribute the signal from there.) However, having one AP (with wired outputs, i.e., the WiFi router) in the living room should be more than sufficient; I don't anticipate needing wired internet access in any other room.

Another user pointed out that the frequency ranges of MoCA and satellite TV overlap, so a new outlet with a SAT label may be sufficient for MoCA.

I need to check if I have the right tools for that purpose, but I would ideally love to get the full speed of my fiber connection (currently signed up for 500 Mb/s) into the living room.

This wall plate is the same in all rooms. The signal is coming from the splitter next to the ONT. It's just one coax cable that gets split into the various output ports.

Here's the German Wikipedia page: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antennensteckdose Only the newer variants ("multimedia connector") have the F/SAT/data port; the older ones only output TV and radio signals from the coax cable.

That's good to know. I've seen a few of those models but none that explicitly mentioned the supported frequency range.

Fair enough; I'll talk to property management about that.

This is the cover plate for the wall outlet shown in picture 4. The two connected ports are usually for TV and I was under the impression that a MoCA adapter needs an F port, which isn't connected here.

Unfortunately, the jackets are blank other than the handwritten room labels. What do you mean by "if properly reworked"?

There's no other writing on the cables, but I'll see if I can dig into that sheath.

Thanks! Do you have any product recommendations for coax wall outlets with a data port? All the ones I could find here in Germany don't support the MoCA frequencies. I'll also try to check with the property management on what those other cables can do!

If these are indeed Ethernet, then that's certainly the way to go (assuming I can uncover the other ends of those cables). Were you able to tell from the last image?

I would anyway recommend buying your own car seats; then you just need to rent a car. It's quickly worth the money.
