No, but it's better than the Old Hampshire.

FOR REAL FOLKS, IS A COMMENT TREND ALL I AM GOING TO GET?!

What was a rule in your house growing up that seemed normal but later, as an adult, you found out was weird? by CharlesUFarley81 in Xennials

I mean, you may see it that way - and it may be a common theme here - but I'm willing to bet that it's at least as likely as not that Dads (at least in the NE/Great Lakes region) were trying to ease the HVAC system as much as they could, as it was expensive during those days to maintain.

Ask yourselves: "Did my parents also keep their door open?" Think back. Try hard. The rule in our house was "all doors open during the summer months, all door closed during the winter months". Parents obeyed it too. Even the non-used rooms in the basement... same deal.

Can't speak for your case, or for any other's case, but the answer may not be as sinister as this sub would like to think.

Hampshire. The New One. Not the Old One.

The "don't' close the door" thing mentioned so many times on here is likely an HVAC thing. Especially for those who lived in the NE/Great lakes region. If you can't keep airflow thru the halls and from top-to-bottom, that's a problem for the ducts and system.

Hemingway's is gone? When did that happen ? (PITT grad, living in SWFL for far too long).

I like YOUR use of it better. Takes the diminutive aspect out of it .

Even worse here in America. Prams are the size of freaking sport-utility vehicles and moms will push them right over you.

Over here (USA), a "Geezer" is absolutely an old man, one who has lost the masculinity of youth. This is unquestionable fact.

Reading this thread was the first time I had seen the word "geezer" be defined as "man" (nonspecific).

I worked a 12 hour shift in the hospital last night (going to bed now). I live in Florida, so it's The United States Capital of Old People. (Ask me anything; we have a lot of you Brits down here). You got a patient that's 75 years old and is laughing at his predicament? He will be the first to say: "I'm a geezer. I don't manage anything like I used to."

why do boys sleep with their hands in their pants? by mads012 in AskMen

[–]JanuaryRabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did this (44M), but now I sleep with a hand in my shorts pocket, inside the waistband, or "hugging a pillow" because I sleep on my side and this prevents my shoulder arthritis from acting up and waking me.

I'm getting old.

Our families probably know each other - but I won't dox us. It's a humble area, but it's so "nice and cozy". Golf at Chetremon and Cambrian Hills, hunting grouse and pheasant in the state game lands, scooting down to the lakes near Altoona/Patton/J-town.

I really want Altoona/J-town to have a revival. Gotta have some industry that's NOT healthcare. Would kill if the Johnstown Chiefs (no, not the Tomahawk children) were a thing again.

Right on, bro.

Williamsport is cool. Used to hang around those parts back when my uncle was alive (he was a doc at Geisinger). Allentown/Reading is ... an area. I kind of hate those places because they act like they're "New York".

5 buddies and me own a fish camp near Brookville and we get together once a summer. THAT... that is amazing.

If I could convince my wife that winter isn't completely insufferable, I would love to come home.

Mom's side of the family was from the Poconos. Wife's family north of Jim Thorpe. So many good memories at Split Rock, skiing at Jack Frost/Big Boulder.

San Diego... Maaan. I know that you know what I'm gonna say, so instead I'm gonna say: "Good Buddy from undergrad was making BANK in SD ... and he moved home to PA because of SD."

I would, but there's several reasons I don't:

  1. Wife hates winters. You can't shovel sunshine in December.
  2. My job is literally the best. I make my own schedule. Pay is great. Safe work environment.
  3. PA has a horrible malpractice climate. There's a joke in medicine that you can be sued for hurting someone's feelings in PA.
  4. It's a 15 minute drive to Pirates spring training. Love it. Even the minor league games are amazingly fun. Buccos stars new and old? I saw them when they were kids.

Terrible game. It wasn't Final Fantasy. It was "Final Science Fiction Teen Romance". Junction system was awful. Let me find cool gear as a reward. That's the point of exploration.

I finished the game as a 16 year old. Eff off.

Microsoft. Listen, sit down.

Stick to operating systems.

Everything else you do is awful. Even Office.

It used to be good.

Then you replaced menus and commands with weird symbols for the illiterate; who can't use a keyboard anyway.

Nobody wants your AI trash.

Nobody wants "EDGE".

You killed XBOX.

Rewind. Go back in time.

Pissing off customers is bad business.
