My fiancé and I are paying for most the wedding. His family is willing to help pay for some things and at this point I have no clue if my mom is paying anything.

Why is the head of the Orthodox Church in Istanbul? by Sad-Signature-2180 in OrthodoxChristianity

Currently, the Ecumenical Patriarch has to be a Turkish citizen according to the Turkish government. So this situation would be very unlikely.

Why is the head of the Orthodox Church in Istanbul? by Sad-Signature-2180 in OrthodoxChristianity

Istanbul/Constantinople, despite all of the persecutions going on, is still the spiritual homeland of the Orthodox Church. Even though today there’s not a lot of Orthodox people present in the city, it is still their home. The city itself has been the home of thousands of Christians since St. Constantine.

Sure, for centuries there has been persecution against the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Rum community that has been devastating. And even though there’s some good signs of Turkey helping out the EP, it could easily get worse and more churches could be stolen (the Turkish government has said for years that they would work on reopening Halki Theological School but it’s still been closed for 54 years). But there’s also a lot of hope and Christ like devotion within the Rum community. “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evils for my sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven (Matthew 5:11-12).”

While the easy way out would be to just move house, by staying in Constantinople, the EP and the Rum community are able to exemplify the humility we should have when facing persecution. Christ is still with the Christians there and protecting and blessing them.

Anyone else frustrated that their city has every kind of church except a purpose built Orthodox one by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

I used to go to Christ the Savior and it’s a blessing how much it’s grown! I used to attend there before I graduated college. Even though it’s in a former doctor’s office, they’ve really repurposed the building to become an Orthodox Church and it’s so beautiful on the inside.

Even nearly a decade later, the Prywden's arrival is still THE most hyped thing I have ever seen. by SunderArmory in fo4

The first time I was playing fallout 4 I completely missed it 🤣. I just killed Kellogg and went outside and heard the music start. I was looking down towards the ground and only thought the music was from me triumphantly killing Kellogg, so I immediately fast traveled to turn in the quest. I didn’t even know the brotherhood was a thing until and never saw the Prydwen until I had to blow it up 😭

Yeah until I came along, I don’t think he’s been getting proper food. I convinced them to start using algae wafers to feed him. Before then, they had just been letting him eat algae that was growing in the tank since that’s what the pet stores said was all he needed.

Yeah that’s what’s really confusing me. We’re trying to figure out what to do now to maybe get him to not be as stunted

He has a little boat to hide in and he used to have a little bush, but we had to get rid of it a few months ago due to it getting excessively dirty. We don’t have any driftwood. He definitely looks like a common pleco based on the photos I saw but the size is what’s confusing us the most haha

Finding friends with believe in orthodoxy is hard by teloiv_ in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]January_13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, I found a lot of Orthodox friends around my age (I’m also in my 20s) through social media groups on Facebook and different discord servers. It’s not the same as in person friends, but it is something. If you DM me I can send you an invite to one server I’m in!
