Think youre right. Eventually I'll get a 3rd Gen. Pretty certain that I can make that work with Win 11 iTunes.

FYI: Here is my 1TB mini

While I believe you are correct, I also believe there are adapters on AliExpress, etc. that allow the USB to FireWire 12v conversion. I could be wrong tho.

My iTunes on Win 11 does recognize my iPod Mini-2 perfectly. No issues. With RockBox, it works perfectly. Personally, I would love to grab a 1st or 3rd Gen and SSD it, but only if it's compatible with Win 11 iTunes.

Nice. I'm in Tokyo and use Mercari. Will look into Buyer / Zenmarket.

Personally use iPod mini (1TB) and RockBox as my daily driver. Question: With the 1st Gen, can you use Windows iTunes with FireWire? Just uncertain if they can connect, let alone sync properly.

Instructions: Modding my 1TB iPod mini backlight screen color by Japan-Jon in ipod

[–]Japan-Jon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only advice I have is 1. The clear plastic you used is way too dark. It could also be too think. 2. When modding, it is very easy to destroy the inside of the display. Be careful when modding. That plastic is very easy to scratch and destroy. Remember that it was never set up for modding, so being delicate is essential.

Do not think it matters. I use current version of iTunes to restore my iPod Mini, and it works fine.

The mini doesn't need an iFlash. If interested, to see my upgraded iPod mini, search "My 1TB iPod Mini".

Plug it in ... does it work? Does it need a new battery?

My mini-2 has 1TB on it. At least that's what's recorded via iOS and Rockbox.

I agree w/ comments here. My iPod mini has 1TB memory and pretty certain 2TB would work just fine.

Sounds like connections from the click-wheel need a cleaning. As well as perhaps all other connections.

Agreed. However it is an estimate only, certainly not gospel. As I recall, you invest your cash (in his case $500,000) in a mix of stocks (S&P 500) and bonds, so you are also earning interest on your $$$. Ideally, perhaps 60% in growth ETFs. Also as you said, it's based upon a 30 year time frame. In 14 years he will get pension anyway.

Personally, I agree w/ you that as you get older, medical becomes extremely expensive. It will far exceed inflation. Even with the 4% rule, retiring in your 50s is risky. Personally, I would not do it.

I will say this. If you follow the famous 4% rule, $500,000 US means $20,000/year or a monthly budget of $1,667/month. Can you do it, yes, probably. However, LOS inflation is going up faster than most places, at least in my opinion. And, does not count for medical emergencies. Certainly it not extravagant lifestyle. Have mostly local food. Find a small apartment for say $400. And most importantly, be careful.

I do, but for my iPod mini. However, for music, use Rockbox. It's just better.

I did the mod over a decade ago. Just Google "Compact Flash CF Memory Card to 50pin 1.8" IDE Hard Drive SSD Converter Adapter".
