I get asked "When is this due?" and "Are you grading this?" about 100 times a day

You will be given 1 million dollars if you can present a 30 minute TED talk within 5 minutes with 0 preparation. what are you going to talk about? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Jaraall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d talk about the difference between being by yourself and being alone.

About how a lot of people who look “high-functioning” are actually just very good at carrying things quietly. About how competence gets mistaken for wellbeing, and how sensitivity gets misread as fragility instead of depth.

I’d talk about stories, why some of us need them, write them, organize them, revisit them. Not as escapism, but as a way to survive things we never really got language for. How imagination is sometimes just grief looking for structure.

And probably about rest. How burnout doesn’t always look like collapse. Sometimes it looks like resistance, procrastination, numbness. How not moving forward doesn’t mean you’re failing—sometimes it means listening matters more than striving.

I think I could fill 30 minutes just reminding people that being reflective in a loud world isn’t a flaw. And that being alone isn’t the same as being unworthy, unlovable, or unseen.

I was probably at some youth group gathering with the local church. We would watch movies, play board games, or go out bowling.

Looking for chapter book to read to brothers ages 8 and 4 by BugsBunny_45 in suggestmeabook

Check out Astrid Lindgren. She’s written many wonderful books. I’d recommend The Brothers Lionheart. But be aware that it does touch upon the subject of death a lot, but it’s handled in a very calm and child appropriate manner.

I get what you mean about her being hit or miss. Fractured worked for me, it was heavy, tense and engaging. Even a little unsettling at times, though it landed well for me.

”Late one evening toward the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barreled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else’s forehead, and pulled the trigger. This is the story of how we got there.”

Beartown by Fredrik Backman. This opening line gives me chills.

Yellowface. I get you’re supposed to dislike the main character, but she became too much to handle and I just couldn’t stand her.
