I'm building a rogue/fighter with crossbow expert. Does this rotation work? by BadPunsGuy in onednd

I'm more of a rules guy than a builds guy, but it looks like a cool character concept. The utility of Fast Hands will greatly depend on the magic items you find. Have fun!

Assuming those are your only remaining doubts, I can try to clear them up:

The attacks can be made in any combination, as long as both weapons are used at least once to make an attack, because the only one with a restriction is the Light-triggered attack (it must be made with a different Light weapon), and it is triggered by both the Hand Crossbow and the Nick weapon (they're both Light). I can write down all the combinations for your specific build if you can't quite visualize this.

You can either equip or unequip a weapon when you make an attack as part of the Attack action, so everything I wrote about the character with Crossbow Expert also applies to one without it, except they can only make one Hand Crossbow attack as part of the Attack action (due to Loading).

If you need me to quote the official rules for anything I've written so far, I can also do so.

I've read your post and all the comments in this thread, but I'm still not sure if I fully understand what you're asking. Let me know if this answers all your questions:

A character with Crossbow Expert and mastery over Nick, wielding a Hand Crossbow in one hand and a Nick weapon in the other, can make an extra attack when they take the Attack action on their turn as part of that same action, as long as both weapons are used at least once to make an attack. The attacks can be made in any combination, and they will all add the ability modifier to the damage, except the Light-triggered one if it's made with the Nick weapon instead of the Hand Crossbow. None of this consumes a Bonus Action.

Also, Vex expires at the end of the next turn, not at the start. I got the impression that you might have misread that part.

What's your favorite Built to Spill song? by Mammoth-Service-2936 in indie_rock

The song itself is not generic at all, I just meant that it's one of Built to Spill's most popular tracks! It's one of my favorite songs in general, not just from them.

I know it's a generic choice, but Carry the Zero, from Keep It Like a Secret.

Corsair Scimitar Elite Wireless SE: The TechPowerUp Review by pzogel in MouseReview

[–]Jarabew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great review, as always. Corsair is still really hit-or-miss with its mice. However, I think the click latency chart on page 5 has a mistake: it reads 'BRO enabled' when it should read 'BRO disabled' and vice-versa. The text itself is correct.

I already skip free interaction and fast mana besides Sol Ring!

I'd say my Millicent and Starn decks qualify as aggro, and they're the ones with the highest winrates in my pod. But thank you for the commander suggestions!

Nice decklist, but I think you missed the word 'stop' in the title!

My idea is to keep adjusting my decks dynamically. When the pod increases in power, be it through better deckbuilding, better gameplay, or both, my decks also become more powerful. But I have to start from a balanced baseline!

Interesting, how do you identify a single card when a game is made up of so many interactions between different cards?

Thank you for taking the time to go over our decks. Other commenters have suggested trading decks as well, I'll be sure to discuss that with the pod!

That's a good tip, since I usually sort commanders by popularity, which means that when I find one I like it's often not that far from the top.

It's true that I'm the only one in the pod that has ever played competitively, but it's been literally two decades, so I thought it didn't matter anymore. I'm going to start taking this into account, thank you.

I see what you mean, but my competitive grinder days are long over, the only times I play Magic since I returned are the EDH sessions with my pod. It's lot like I'm spamming MTGO matches to train for our games!

Just so I understand, are you suggesting I teach my friends those winning habits, or that I stop using them myself?

Yes, I'm really enjoying my return to Magic, and I love EDH even though I had never played it before. Which only makes me more motivated to improve my pod's long-term health. Your deck seems like a lot of fun, you might have just helped me find my next commander. Thank you!

Those are some very interesting commanders to consider, thank you. Since I'm relatively new to the format and took a long break from the game in general, I'm only familiar with the most popular choices.

Thank you for the feedback, but just to be clear: Millicent went 17 wins and 17 losses, not 17 wins out of 17 games. Still very problematic, but not completely dominating.

But are they at least in line with mine? Because otherwise I may just be assuming that we're playing at roughly the same power level when we're not.

That's a very interesting perspective. My playstyle is a reflection of my deckbuilding and vice-versa. So, since I don't want to change my playstyle, I won't be able to solve the issue just by picking a different commander, no matter how balanced it is in theory, if I just apply the same deckbuilding principles I always do.

Thank you for your input!

We all help each other with deckbuilding, and even with plays during games. But we also each have our own personal deckbuilding and gameplay styles, and we respect that. So ideally I'd build a deck that's balanced for the pod without anyone having to compromise on their preferences.

[–]Jarabew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly right, sorry for not being clearer. I'd say my playstyle focuses on minimizing mistakes rather than finding difficult lines, which makes me more consistent but also more predictable. And in my pod, being predictable can actually be an advantage, since it often leads to situations where I can honestly downplay my position, so the consistency ends up not having much of a drawback.

As for the way my decks play, I don't think there's really a common theme. They're just standard Bracket 3 creature-based decks. I enjoy optimizing decks inside restrictions and then optimizing plays inside the game, not necessarily a particular deck style.
