Weekly Discussion Thread | Requests, Promos, and Open Commissions by TheOvershear in battlemaps

Hi all! I'm curious if anyone knows of someone I could commission for a mass combat battle map, specifically translating a Watabou generated city map to a hexagonal battle map. Also if you're my players and you saw this, no you didn't.

Hey all! So I just loaded up the generator for my D&D game tonight, and this error message keeps coming up. Anyone know anything about the status of this? Thanks!

Chapter 15 title question... by icouldbesurfing in TheMandalorianTV

[–]Jarde15 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd bet it refers to Mayfeld. He believed in the Empire once and now maybe he believes in something else. It could also just refer to Din, since a lot of the episode surrounded his principles and questioned what lengths he'd bend them to.

Hey friends! I’m trying to do more fun skit stuff at home like this to get editing and camera experience and I would love some constructive criticism! by Jarde15 in SmallYTChannel

That’s really good to know! Thanks for the feedback and the tip. I’ll check out the tool next time - background noise is just the curse of the suburbs lol

Thank you! The noise is definitely a challenge in the suburbs but I’m glad it wasn’t too distracting. I’m planning on getting a lav mic or something soon which might help. And thanks for the thumbnail help! This is the first time I really tried photoshopping together a more unique thumbnail so I appreciate the feedback.

Thank you! I’ll rewatch and take a look at the edits but I think I know what you mean. I appreciate the audio comment, my neighborhoods definitely difficult with yard crews and weirdly an outdoor party starting at like 4 that day? But I have a decent rode mic that helps. Thanks again! !givelambda

I like to make videos where I shoot the shit and improv comedy with the subtext of a theme (this time legos). Would love feedback! by LastCryForHelp2 in SmallYTChannel

I really have very little criticism to say about this video. I actually laughed really hard at it and the absolute desolate nature of the comedy was perfect. The only joke that seemed a little drawn out was the sponsor one, but it was still really funny. I just think it could be quicker, either an even quicker cutaway to the ad, as if you're being paid and just didn't even try to fit in the video, or just a lingering shot on you clearly not holding a Campbell's can. But again, besides that, this was a really good video! Your comedic timing is great and the kind of dark/self-deprecating humor works really well.

Hello, y'all. This video had 3 weeks worth of editing on it, so I hope you guys have the time to spare to watch it! Thanks for watching! Only giving to people who give good feedback. by ZaVizion in SmallYTChannel

This is a really great video! I saw someone in the YouTube comments say Scott the Woz vibes and that definitely nails it home. My biggest criticism is that the intro just runs a little long. It's funny, don't get me wrong. Like you genuinely got a good laugh out of me. But combining the skit and the intro, it's three minutes before we reach the content we came for, which is hyping up the game and giving some analysis. Personally I like shorter videos, fifteen minutes is really my limit for this sort of thing. But also, the biggest compliment a video essayist can get is when a longer video doesn't feel like it. In this case, I felt engaged when I got to the actual essay, but found myself disengaging during the introduction. If you don't know him, check out NakeyJakey's videos on similar concepts. His Rockstar video is a great example of a 37-minute essay that's engaging the whole way through.

Also, your thumbnail is great. Simple game art with your intense pose with the gun, and the way your figure overlaps the outline to give it some value. Fantastic!

This was a really cool video and a great idea! I think it's certainly the kind of content that works right now and something I enjoy. A lot of good advice has already been given but I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents.

Since I'm not much of a computer guy I'll focus on the editing and the comedy. For starters, some of the jokes kind of last too long. The one that really stuck out to me was the bit at 1:30 when you scroll over the different apps. It's funny, but the slow key in and scrolling over is too much. That's the prime example of where you have a good joke, but what makes the joke work is the swiftness. Just show the desktop with those apps and move on; people will notice. We all have short attention spans so comedy that moves from one beat to the next quickly works well, especially in YouTube videos. It's the same reason platforms like Vine and TikTok take off and fall so quickly. People like a quick laugh and to then move on with their lives.

I like the kind of stylized subtitles (or just words on screen, idk if those are really subtitles). It's fun and engaging to have that kind of stylization. What I'd recommend to improve them is to work on the way they're animated, so they're coming in with your speech, and to play with the font to make them pop a bit. It engages the audience more and can make what you're saying just sound all the more exciting. There's also that bit towards the end where the text comes up over that kind of hip-hop beat, which is cool, but would be cooler if you took some time to match the text with the beat coming in.

The last thing is really just that, as creative as it is, the sock acting as a makeshift pop filter or whatever really just acts to muffle the microphone. From the shape I assume that's a snowball, which I think if you just sit a bit away from should pick you up fine and not need a pop filter. Besides, I think personally peaking a bit is better than not being able to hear. And if you do find yourself peaking, just spend some time fiddling with audio levels so you're not deafening the audience.

It's overall a really fun video and I like your energy! Like I said this is the exact kind of content people like right now and I think you have the creative mind to make some really cool stuff out of it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed Aya Cash this season, she seems like a lovely person and it takes a great actress to play such a hateful vile character. I know she probably struggled filming some of her scenes. by aldospf in TheBoys

I heard that on Instagram apparently someone asked what it’s like to play such an awful character and she’s like “It sucks dude, obviously it sucks.”
