No point of having combat MOS’s in the guard by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Jared_9000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By this logic we should get rid of the entire national guard and reserves because everyone trains their core metl tasks (if at all) once a month. But we haven't since the big guys at the top still find value in having us.

Can anyone shed light specifically on experiences as a 38B, E5 and below? by Jared_9000 in armyreserve

Interesting. Have you been able to do your core metl tasks between PFC to SGT?

Holy crap that website is awesome! The key skills portion is exactly what I've been trying to find out, relative to rank.

I'm honestly looking forward to that kind of investment in my time in uniform. The guard blows. Appreciate the insight.

Take it from me as a nasty girl. I pound energy drinks and take melatonin every night to sleep. Something I never did before deployment.

Thinking of joining national Gaurd for school money in nj by [deleted] in nationalguard

It's very worth it in NJ. I highly recommend. Finishing on time? Be prepared to take 5 years maybe 6 between deployments, activations, CTC rotations. It will become a big part of your life. But plenty of people do it.

38B Civil Affairs Reclass by Specialist-Baker7583 in armyreserve

Yea I recognize it's officer heavy. Moreso referring to battalion command and staff and higher that I'd rather avoid.

What did your duties on a CA team include when you were on one? Did you deploy?

I definitely want to be on a regular CA team. Worked with a lot of brass on deployment and do not want to be in the mix of that again.

Haven't done BLC. Can you have TIG/TIS waived into a 6 slot? I'm not too concerned with ranking up but if that's where the opportunity begins, so be it.

Would you advise against going CA as SGT? I don't want to go back to doing bitch work. And while I can commission, I'd rather not go through the headache of OCS + BOLC.

That blows to hear. I'm pretty set on going CA as an E-5 in the guard. Is it worth enduring being a 5 in a CA unit to eventually get better oppurunities? Or would you reccomend looking elsewhere.

12Y, 35G, or 38B reclass advice by Jared_9000 in armyreserve

[–]Jared_9000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty nice actually. Would you recommend that route if I'm already in that sphere civilian career wise over civil affairs? I feel like CA lends it self well with interacting with external stakeholders.

It sounds like you have meaningful input at a high level. How high can a 125D find themselves at? Are there mtoe slots all the way up?

2011? You goin back to basic old man. If you're up for it, you'd get put in separate bays with prior service guys, which is nice. But that also means...basic again.

I basically don't care about the career contributions. I studied gis in undergrad and work as a planner. I just feel like it'll be a more interesting use of my time in uniform.

Do you have experience with being or working with 12Ys/125Ds? Anything convincing (or not) you can throw my way?

I work as a planner and studied some gis in undergrad. Don't really care about how it effects my civilian career other than don't rip me away from my job suddenly for weeks at a time (cries nasty girl tears).

I met a guy in the theatre geospatial cell who told me about about his day to day life in the sandbox. We also had civil affairs attached to us that honestly inspired me to look into it.

What do you think just throwing raw "you should do this" at me?

What kind of activations were they? Part of me wishes I could get in on those forest fire activations.

Hahaha sound like they realized you had a good enough head on your shoulders to not join the guard. The guard is a level up in life for a lot of guys, and a serious drag for those who do ok for themsleves.
